Having arrived at Pepe Nero at 3:30 pm we were told that dinner did not start till 5:00 pm and that we could order from the small plates menu. We were skeptical at first until we saw the wide array of choices and were instantly hooked on the idea. When the food came we weren't disappointed. Everything was delicious and the chef even made changes to accomodate each persons wants. Our waitress Jennifer couldnt have been more pleasant and efficient. Drinks and dessert were wonderful and we cant wait to go back for dinner. Class act establishment!
We're not sure how such a lovely start to the night could turn so ugly. This is an upscale dining establishment and we were confronted and accused of making fun of a family's children (who were exceptionally well-behaved and adorable.) They were so cute and we enjoyed watching their faces when trying fine foods they'd never had. The parents didn't believe that is all it was and told me I was extremely rude. It seems our waiter Mikko said something to them to instigate what happened next. Earlier during our dinner a different family was there with a screaming, shrieking little girl who was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk (this is a loud place with high warehouse ceilings). When the family finally removed the child and left, we clapped and cheered. We couldn't help it. We have raised 6 babies between us and never at any time would we have allowed our children to be so disruptive in a fine dining restaurant- Nor would we have ever brought them to a fine dining establishment in the first place. We think because of our clapping and comments to the waiter Mikko, that he may have misunderstood our opinion of children and lead this family to believe we didn't like children. We were complimenting the parents on their well-behaved children and one dad told my friend to "sit his ass down and mind his own business." Then when leaving I tried to clarify with a parent and was cut off and told I was being extremely rude. The 3 dads in the group followed us out and a shouting match ensued. One of the moms told us the waiter Mikko apologized for our behavior to them and that "we didn't like children." I truly believe the waiter instigated the entire misunderstanding. We left there knowing we can never come back or recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Portions nominal and service inferior. Informed server and he said, oh well. Ruined my celebration. After being a patron nationwide for 20+ years, I'm done.
Very nice atmosphere. Not a lot of options on the menu but the food is always excellent. They try and use as many local ingredients and products including soft drinks and wines for their menu. Everyone I have taken there so far has really enjoyed the food.
