My husband had an accident with a table saw, seriously slicing his small finger at the joint. Called both Flower and Toledo hospital ERS asking if they had a hand surgeon on call. Flower Hospital was brutally honest and suggested that we go to Toledo. Arrived at Toledo and triage nurse was great! She asked all of the right questions, looked at his injury and sent us back to be seen. Things ran smoothly at first. Exray was taken, ER resident gave quick exam and numbed the finger for attending. Attending called the hand surgeon on call and it was decided by the 2 doctors that my husband's injury could wait till Monday. I spoke up at this time and stated, "If he is on call why can't he see him now?" This seemed to upset the attending and he proceeded to dismiss my suggestion acting as if it was a poor suggestion. Moving forward temporary stitches were placed and discharge instructions given. A second nurse arrived to dress the wound. Leaving the bloody gauze, blue pad and old dressing on top of my husbands legs, he picked up the unused pink basin sitting in the same work area and put it back into the cupboard!! How would you like to use a contaminated pink basin!???
Frankly, I am an old nurse that has worked in many different hospitals. I know what proper care and technique should look like. We were told from the start that, "It has been a great day, not too busy but steady!", and, "Your husbands injury is the first real emergency of the day!". I cannot recommend "The Toledo Hospital".
My grandfather was transferred to Toledo Hospital and since then his health has went extremely down hill. I have been told by both the doctor and nurses that they are understaffed and have too many patients to regularly check on their patients and call people when issues arise. I walked into his room yesterday while he was sedated to find soiled sheets thrust around his room and they had been there for some time (considering he was rushed for a CT 2 hours prior and then heavily drugged, so they were there for at least 2 hours). I went to the nurses' station and demanded they be cleaned up. A few days ago he waited 25 minutes for a nurse to help him go to the bathroom and an hour for one to help him get ready for bed. They asked him if he was ready for breakfast the one day and he said not yet, so he NEVER got fed. SHAME ON THEM, SHAME ON EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM!!!! How can you charge outrageous fees for your expertise and care when you are not providing it???
I was at Toledo Hospital overnight due to a car accident. I could not have been more impressed. The staff was extremely professional, punctual and friendly. Within seconds of calling for a nurse, they were in my room. I felt like I was the only patient that they had. Even the housekeeper who cleaned my room while I was in the hospital bed was so friendly. If the need ever arises in the future, Toledo Hospital is my first choice.
Went to Toledo hospital with the symptoms of severe headache, stiff neck, and vomiting. No test were run. I was given two narcotics and a pill to stop throwing up and discharged. Is this really the kind of care that you give. I will go to Mercy hospitals from now on. Promedica hospitals are nothing, but a joke and a band aid station who doesn't give a crap about your health.
My Husband was brought in ER Cardiac yesterday for severe Chest Pains. He had blood work to check Cardiac enzymes and Chest xrays and a EKO which thankfully were normal. We had to wait over 2 hours for Stat blood results. Never one time did an MD or Cardiologist come in the room. The nurse informed us my Husband nended an Echogram and Stress test I was well aware of these tests since I had a Heart November 17, 2010. We were told it would be impossible to get the test while he was there unless he agreed to stay overnight. We told them we would return today but that wasn't good enough. We weren't even given a paper showing he was ever there. Thankfully,My Cardiologist will see my Husband tomorrow. I felt we were not given the kind of treatment by a Hospital that advertisespecially that Cardiologists are available 24/7. Very Disappointed. Back in 2010 I was given a lot better care. And to my surprise we weren't even given a follow-up call. Toledo Hospital will not be our choice in the Future. Patricia S. Merkel.
