I spent the last half of my 20's and the vast majority of my 30's with severe lower back pain, with some days hunched over in pain, and some days the pain so severe, I had to crawl to get to the bathroom. I had surgery January 2008 on my L-5 and S-1, diagnosed with degenerative disc disease. After following the doctor's orders to a T during recovery, my quality of life improved 10 fold.Two years later, I started getting backaches again. I went to the surgeon, and he suggested more physical therapy as I needed to build up my core muscles. Previous attempts with pt with results that seemed temporary at best made me leery of investing money. I knew I needed something I could invest in for long-term benefits.I heard about this new gym in Toledo, CrossFit LifeSport (3128 Douglas). I met with the coach, Todd Ovall, in October 2010, and explained my situation. I was not very confident at first, but my determination not to be in that kind of pain again along with Coach Ovall's genuine encouragement, I kept coming back. Coach kept stressing functional movement. Each WOD was scaled to what I could do at the time. This is not a typical gym. The only competition is against your previous time. Every accomplishment, however small, is celebrated. How fast you do a movement is not as important as doing the movement correctly. The fellow athletes help create a family atmosphere. From the very first day, I was cheered and encouraged.Every day I step into that box is a learning experience. Along with functional movement, I have learned about nutrition, flexibility, stress management and proper sleep habits. Coach Ovall is always learning and seeking information to expand his knowledge to improve our lives. During every workout, he, or one of his capable assistant coaches, observes your movements and advises on strengths and areas of improvement.I am 43 years old and in the best shape of my life. I visited my surgeon on my 3rd year CrossFit anniversary. I reminded him he told me I would never be a weightlifter. I then told him all of my accomplishments in CrossFit. He was impressed with what I could do. Half of it was my determination, but half of it is equally credited to the coaching style and fellow athletes at CrossFit LifeSport.
Great Gym! Wonderful, dedicated coaches, safe and fun, and a large variety of workout class times. Feels just like a family! Very welcoming nice people! I have been with them for almost a year, and have tried other Crossfit Gyms in Toledo. Lifesport is hands down the best Crossfit gym in Toledo! I even worked out through my pregnancy, and they did a great job altering my workouts to fit my pregnancy!
Great supportive environment with serious workouts that are adjusted to each person's skill and strength.
I have been attending this gym for over 4 years. Great supportive atmosphere, people of all skill levels are welcome. The owner is a great coach, flexible but also good at pushing you to do your best. Also, he is constantly bring new ideas to the gym, won't let us neglect things like flexibility, stress, diet and sleep. And, most importantly, I am in the best shape of my life but still am encountering new and interesting challenges in the gym.
I have attended this box for about five months and i have seen tremendous physical results. The coach does a great job instructing and pushing you to get better everyday. The atmosphere is awesome, everyone supports each other. I recommend this box CFLS to anyone who wants to be the best they can be.
I have been going to Crossfit Lifesport for over two years now. As a former college athlete it gives me that competitive environment with a true family feel. Everyone there is always eager to cheer the next person on and is truly excited to see someone achieve a personal goal. Todd has done a great job of creating this environment!!
This is a true family atmosphere. I feel no intimidation, no pressure to "perform" just to do my best. It has been life changing for me. From the trainers to the participants, everyone wants you to succeed. There is true fitness and nutrition knowledge at this box. If you're doing crossfit at another box you're missing out on maximizing your potential
When I first walked into CFLS almost five years ago, I thought I wouldn't survive a week. I didn't know how to do many of the movements and could barely finish a work-out. But with training and instruction from Todd Ovall I was able to learn functional movements while progressively gaining strength and stamina. Where I used to feel intimidated by the work-outs, I now feel empowered knowing I can do them. I am in the best shape of my life and it is all because of the training and instruction at CFLS. The environment at the gym is friendly, motivating and yet still competitive. That's what keeps me coming back!
