The Chuck Box in Tempe

I had the most wonderful experience at the Chuck Box. Not only was the food cooked perfectly delightful, but the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Aslo, the rustic nature of their establishment was very appealing! I would definetly be a repeat customer there. Staff members such as Rod, Andy, Ken and Will are usually working when I go and make a great burger! I highly recommend the Big Juan with guacamole, bacon, and pepperjack! Go there or you are missing out!

Great burgers and rings

This place really has the best burgers for the price. I am not kidding. It top notch at the same price as fast food. It's cash only so don't be caught off guard.

The best darn hamburguers I have tried in Phoenix.

Well, I think I am over doing the headline!

Let's see. Ordering in a weekend or a busy time is as you walk in is a challenge to patience, but come'n, you have to wait either sitting down or standing up, right?

Guac & bacon plus Tijuana torpedo are the ones we ALWAYS order, plus the fries of course. Our probably above 1,000 carbs makes us guilty but that's why you have all those mountains around to burn those calories. Well, what's in a hamburguer that is healthy if not for the lettuce, tomato and peppers?

As we reach the cashier and pay first, we get our order in a fashion manner, sit down and eat.

Where's Ponch?

I reemmber when the Chuck Box was owned and operated by Ponch and his
son w/ the rest of the family. It never needed advertising, because the food was
so good. Now it appears to be a little more commericalized and gimmicked.
I think I'd be very disappointed. I hope Ponch and his son Ponch Jr are still
doing's been many years since I thought of the Chuck Box, but I'm
sure he'd still remember Carl L, Nino, and the bunch that used to leave work
and run to the Warehouse across teh street..where Ponch would not hire
anyone who was a past present or future employee was alot of fun back then.
The restaurant was clean..and the food was awesome..pitchers of beer were
ice cold...

Great burgers, but dirty restaurant

I went to Chuckbox after not having been there for probably 20+ years. I used to eat there a lot when I was a student at ASU in the late '70's. I was excited to eat there after so long, but I was disgusted by the fry cook, first off. He had a cell phone right next to the grill that he kept picking up and texting on (we all know how germy those cell phones are!) and then he would proceed to handle the hamburger buns with his bare hands. Also, the condiment bar was bare, to say the least, and didn't look very clean, either. The hamburger was tasty, but I was afraid I might get sick after eating there. Luckily, I didn't, but I was disappointed that it wasn't more clean. I think if a Health Dept. official had walked in right then, he or she would have closed the place down on the spot! Too bad, because the hamburgers are still yummy!

Good Food

This place has really good food i only had their burgers and fries. I would recommend take out for this place since the atmosphere is not so pretty and seats are VERY uncomfortable, and its very warm inside which also makes it even more uncomfortable.

The dirtiest resturant i have ever been inside of.

Beyond any doubt this was the dirtiest and most unkept resturant i have ever seen. The dirt and grime can be scraped off of every surface in a thick paste. I cannot believe that the County has not shut this once proud institution down. If there is any doubt to my claim go see for yourself. Take a good look around before you order. Wash that burger down with a nice bottle of Pepto cause you are gonna need it..

Great burgers and fries

The Chuckbox has the best hamburgers in town. The condiment bar is varied and plentiful. The cheeseburgers and fries with a Coke are a great lunch. The only drawback is that the ordering is slightly intimidating as 'fry cooks' kind of yell at you from behind the grill.

Burger Heaven!

I've been eating at the Chuckbox since the 70's and it is still the best burger joint in town. The burgers are cooked over mesquite before your very eyes and have that delicious, smokey flavor. After adding whatever you want at the condiment station, settle in with a cold beer and watch the ASU coeds file by. I used to arrange an hour between classes at ASU, just so I could eat there for lunch. Years after graduating, I still love the place! I am getting hungry just thinking about it! See 'ya there!

Still the best

Used to go to the Chuckbox on University when I went to ASU. Still go there when I can (visiting), although I live a few thousand miles away.

Cheap, good, solid chow, not like the frou-frou generoburger chains. I appreciate the ambience at Johnny Rockets but they have one in airports, what's more generic than that? With Chuckbox you get an original.

The Original Hamburger Works in Phoenix is almost a carbon copy of The Chuckbox. Same menu, same cooking prices, same great hamburgers. Always number one or two on my list

Good Food, but not always

The chuckbox IS excellent, but last time i went there my burger was still partially raw, not that appetizing, and not inviting enough for me to go back.

Good as home grilled!

These burgers have been consistently flavorful and juicy for 30 years. Quick service and lots of condiments make this a favorite place for family outings. The price is very reasonable and the atmosphere perfect for kids, or a date on a budget.

World's Best Burger

I ate here as often as I could afford to in college, and even though I have now long since graduated and moved away, I still crave burgers from The Chuckbox daily. If you are ever in TEMPE, you must go there.
