If your breast skin was only mildly affected or changed from radiation therapy, you may be a candidate for direct to implant breast reconstruction, and in fact have a good chance for a successful outcome. However, you are at a slightly increased risk for complications such as capsular contracture (firmness to the implant and breast) and/or infection. If radiation has injured your breast skin to where it canâ€™t be properly expanded, youâ€™re likely not a good candidate for implants and should explore other types of breast reconstruction.
