Kids on the Block is an interactive abuse and bullying prevention program that teaches children how to recognize child abuse and bullying through entertaining and educational 45-minute puppet shows. Its child abuse prevention program is presented to students in grades three by trained puppeteer educators to explain child abuse and neglect. It includes several puppet characters age-appropriate stories. Kids on the Block s Bullies School Safety Program serves fourth-graders and creates an awareness of what constitutes bullying and encourages empathy for the victim. It allows students to explore nonviolent choices and skills to handle bullying and promote school safety. The puppet shows also include question and idea session where students interact directly with puppet characters and become actively engaged in problem solving. Kids on the Block is administered by the Child Abuse Council, which is a private, nonprofit agency that provides several prevention, educational and treatment programs for children and Hillsborough County, Fla.
