I have been to many Publix stores. Most of them are wonderful. In the one on Dale Mabry, the man washed his hands in between touching the raw chicken and my cooked chicken and that really impressed me. He also put on new gloves. This was not done the week before at Wal-Mart, gross! We left there without the chicken.
Also at Publix, I have also seen them run milk and cold products back right away if a customer doesnt want them instead of sitting them in a cart for a while then running them back and putting them back in the cold section for someone else to buy and get sick (as I have seen in other stores.)
I think James was wrong. I hope you try a different Publix and also complain to corporate about James at this Publix. Publix is the cleanest & best store in my opinion.

I used to love Publix. When I lived in Tampa before, I shopped at this very store for YEARS. Clean, well lit, smiling faces, fresh food and the publix promise made sure that I would be satisfied no matter what.
Well, after living out of state for 2 years I just moved back 2 weeks ago. As I was shopping to re-stock my kitchen in the store, a manager was yelling at a young man (employee) in the middle of the store. I couldn't believe it! I felt like I was violating this young man's privacy by being an aisle away and hearing the horrible words that this man was saying out in the open (in my opinion he had no business talking to him that way ANYWHERE). As I rounded the corner I made sure to catch the name on his badge: James. As I left (and my cart stayed behind) I took note that he was the assistant store manager! I overheard another patron speaking with another manager about the behavior so I decided to just leave without giving my $.02, but I regret not saying something.
So, today I try again. While they didn't get the $275 I shelled out to the Sweetbay across the street last week, I thought I'd give it another try since we ALL have off days. Sure enough, the same man was in the store as I walked in. I went about my business and as I stood in line I see this young woman leaving the office using a mobility aide, crying. I thought she had been hurt, but then right behind her was the man: James. Apparently he spent his day today attacking this poor woman who is obviously physically disabled! While I noticed a few caring souls going to console her I watched and this man was shooting a look that could kill...directed towards her! I left my cart in line and went to her to ask if she was okay and the poor thing just smiled through her tears and said she was okay and asked me if I needed anything! I wanted to hug her and find her another job. What has happened to this store? I have asked a few of my new neighbors and none of them shop at Publix anymore.

THOSE that speak negatively about Publix have never shopped there or they must be from other food stores trying to give it a bad name but in truth they can't fool people that shop regularly at Publix. Reasons to shop there: If they mark an item wrong you get it free. If you take it home and cook it and are not satisified they refund your money! If you look at local surveys as to who has the best prices they usually win Hands down! They take pride in the fact that employees dress and act like professionals and there has never been in the 30 years I have traded with them an unpleasant situation that they have not corrected to my satisfaction. If it were not so I wopuld not have said it and I don't work for them and never have and have no financial investnent intheir company
