Comprehensive Examination

Pain Management
Anything that causes pain in people can be expected to cause pain in animals. Pets may not show the same symptoms of pain as people do; they usually don't whine or cry, but you can be sure they feel it. It has been shown that animals on pain medication heal better than ones not on medications, Pain medications needed will depend on the surgery performed. Major procedures require more pain relief than things like minor lacerations.

I believe that PCR/serology information is important because around the same time we were seeing our cases of influenza, a shelter in Philadelphia was reporting numerous fatalities from peracute respiratory disease that was reported to the media as presumptive influenza. It turned out to be Streptococcus equi ("Strep zoo"). So the great hubub in our area (Allentown, PA region) with clients concerned their dogs were all going to die was somewhat short-lived.

At Barsch Animal Clinic we are committed to providing quality care at every stage of your pet's life. From routine preventive care for your pets to early detection and treatment of a wide range of conditions and diseases and surgical care, we have the expertise to provide the care your pet needs at every stage of life.
Spaying and Neutering
Spaying or neutering can be done at approximately 6 months of age. Your pet is given an exam prior to surgery to help determine whether your pet is healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. Current vaccinations are required at the time of surgery. Also a pre-anesthetic blood screen is recommended prior to undergoing anesthesia and surgery.

Laboratory Services
We offer three levels of in-house blood testing before surgery, which we will go over with you when you bring your pet in. Our doctors prefer the more comprehensive screen, because it gives them the most information to ensure the safety of your pet. For geriatric or ill pets, additional blood tests, electrocardiograms, or x-rays may be required before surgery as well.

Boarding: We provide pet boarding as a service to our clients. All boarders receive personal attention from our caring staff. Pets may be dropped off and picked up during regular business hours Monday through Saturday.
Grooming
Our veterinary hospital is well equipped with advanced equipment and technologies to provide the highest standard of care for your pet. Our facility has the equipment to provide comprehensive in house testing for accurate diagnosis, digital x-ray, ultrasound, surgical suite, dental suite, pharmacy, and more. In addition, we offer pet boarding and grooming.
