Description of Complaint:On July 23 I purchased a Dremel tool from Ace hardware (JRNL# f25150/01)(transaction #559)as a Christmas gift for my son who lives in St.Paul MN. I wrapped it and sent it to him later that year on Christmas he opened it then placed it in his shop. A few months later he got it down to use it only to open it and find no tool inside. It was the display box. I went to the store and spoke to the store manager about it. He said "that sounds stranger" and said if its passed 90 days there is nothing I can do. He said" well bring in the box and Ill see what i can do". My son sent it back and I brought it to him with both the box(the said display on the end in small writing ) and the receipt).He said Its passed 90 days not refunds after 90days.We went to the shelf where the dremels were displayed and I pointed out another empty box labeled display for a different type dremel and said this is what happened to me. The box and case have parts inside them so you cant tell its empty by the weight without opening it. He said again I cant refund you its passed 90days. I did not want a refund just to tool I wanted in the first place. I then pointed out that there was no empty box for the dremel that is on display (The dremmel box I had) He said "it must just be in the back room". Yet all the other display boxes except (the one I had bought) had were on the shelf. He then said" I will check my last inventory and see if one was missing.I said" It wont show missing because its not its on display( the inventory crews automatically inventory the display model , I was was a retail store manager for 25 years). I then asked for the corporate complaint number and he said " there is none we are independently owned." He then said I will take down your name and tell the owners about this. I called Ace the franchise Head quarters they said they would looked into it but other then a call the next day saying she was looking into it have not herd anything more.
