I purchased my puppy from here. I am extremely happy and in love with him. All of the staff in the store were outstanding. They had everything I needed for him in the store as well. There was not a shortage on anything. All of the puppies were in puppy pens and there were absolutely no puppy messes in there at all. They had food and clean water for the puppies too. I liked how the lady told me she takes the puppies home to spend time with them. My puppy has no behavioral issues at all and he is doing great with training. Some of these people on here are flat out lying or they have got the wrong store. I am very happy with the service, my puppy, store and pricing. As for the other animals I do not have an opinion because I was not looking at them. I did not smell any offensive odures.

I went into pets & pals to buy some gear for my fish tanks, and the so called ""manager"" (Tall young woman, brown curly hair) was at the front counter on her cell phone texting and didn't even greet me as I walked through the door. I then overheard her tell her co-worker that she was ""sooooo hungover""...this was apparent because when I asked her a question she seemed incoherent, out of it, and was mumbling and jumbling her words so fast I couldn't even understand what she was saying. She was also very snobby. I asked her why the store was always so low on stocking their shelves---which is quite a fair question when u are a paying customer and the things that u want are never in the store--and her answer was very snappy and defensive. She walked back over to the front counter and continued texting on her cell phone. I ended up buying fish food because that was the 1 thing they did have--and as I walk up to the manager (who is still texting on her cell phone in front of me) looks right at me and turns her back away. She then yells to her co-worker to come up to the front counter and help me with my purchase, and once again, she rudely and unprofessionally went back to her cell phone. The other girl cashed me out and said sorry they didnt have what I was looking for, which I thought was nice. But I felt really offended by the disrespectful behavior from the manager. She should sleep off those hangovers and try to be nicer. Not gonna shop there again if she is there.

Very clean, polite staff! Love the store. I, personally, have adopted my three dogs from there. I have never had anything but good service and good prices from them. If someone had an issue and a staff member was upset....it must have been for a very good reason. I have worked with the general public for a long time....I know how rude and aggressive some customers can be if they don't get something for free or if they feel they can't intimidate people to get what they want....I can only imagine what that customer really wanted or said to that staff......Good Job PETS & PALS...WE LOVE YOU!

I will NEVER shop at this pet store again!! My boyfriend and I went into the store to look for a new puppy and we found one here we thought would be a great fit for our family. Since it was late in the evening we decided we would sleep on it, and come back for him the next morning. We asked if there was any way that we could put the puppy on hold until the next day and we were told emphatically that they DO NOT put holds on pets (even with a deposit). So the next day we went in, early in the afternoon, to buy the puppy and we were told that we could not purchase the puppy because he was ON HOLD for someone else!! Naturally I was upset and demanded to speak to the manager who put me on the phone with the owner. Instead of apologizing for her questionable business practices the owner of the store called me a series of names, (most of which cannot be repeated here) and told me to get the F***K out of her store. I was appalled and I think that if you are shopping for a pet or for your pet you should shop elsewhere. Talk about a lack of class and customer service!!

Pets and Pals is a great place to shop for healthy happy puppies. They have a friendly and supportive staff as well as a clean and well maintained facility.
We have been going there for years and have never been disappointed. Our dogs have been awesome additions to our family and we are able to buy all of their supplys there as well.

Every visit I make to Pets & Pals is a sad one. The larger pet store chains have stopped selling puppies and kittens in favor of showcasing adoptable pets from local shelters. An admirable decision. Pets & Pals, however, will offer to buy that accidental litter and flip the animals for a profit--encouraging more breeding, more litters, more overpopulation.
Walk into the ""bird room"" and you will be invited by the foul stench of birds living in filth. Droppings are caked on the cage bars, toys, perches, and bottoms of every cage, even the unoccupied ones. The birds are all under socialized and unclean because the store simply has too many animals to care for them all properly. I have seen many water dishes that look like they haven't been changed in days. Even the ""store pet,"" a green wing macaw, is fraught with behavioral problems because his living quarters are so small, it would be akin to a person living in a home the size of a closet. The staff is often well-intentioned but uneducated. Medium and larger birds are too intimidating for a staff never trained in handling, so these birds go without even basic grooming. The store pet hasn't had a nail trim in several years. A recent addition to the store, a male eclectus parrot, arrived with nails so overgrown they were embedded in his foot pads. The employees knew that this was a problem but were too afraid of the bird to restrain him for a trim.
A new kitten, just purchased at the Pearl Street Pets & Pals, came in to the hospital I work at LOADED with ear mites and with a vaccine record printed in Spanish. An attentive employee should have noticed the constant ear shaking in this poor kitten and asked for veterinary care. Then again, are we to assume these animals receive ANY real veterinary care when someone is buying cheap foreign vaccines?
The disgustingly neglected animals housed at Pets & Pals rely on the ""pity buy,"" where a well-intentioned person sees their terrible living conditions and ""saves"" (a.k.a. buys) the animal, thus encouraging the practice. People who run shady pet shops only speak one language -- money. You vote with your dollar, so spending money there is condoning countless other animals to the same fate.
Please do the animals a favor and take your business elsewhere!
