Lopez Canyon Landfill is a part of the Solid Resources Processing and Construction Division of the Bureau of Sanitation, which is administered by the government of the City of Los Angeles. Lopez Canyon Landfill maintains an environment center that processes curbside-collected yard trimmings into mulches and composts. It recycles more than 100 tons of plant materials everyday. The Solid Resources Processing and Construction Division offers engineering and project management services to city-owned and operated solid resource management facilities and transfer stations. The Bureau of Sanitation collects, cleans and recycles solid and liquid waste products, as well as serves the residential, commercial and industrial sectors. It employs over 2,500 people and provides watershed protection solutions. The organization has won the Project of the Year award from the American Public Works Association.
