Pediatric Care
Once your child is born, it is important that you have many different plans put in place for them. You have probably already gotten started by setting up a nursery or by buying several adorable newborn outfits for them to wear, but one plan of particular importance that many parents forget to consider during the prenatal process is selecting their pediatrician. The board-certified pediatricians at Westside Pediatrics have extensive experience providing care to newborn babies and offering guidance to parents concerning their care. Primary Care
The flu season can start in October and last until May, but the bulk of flu cases happen between December through February. It is important to stay up-to-date in your area, as flu outbreaks happen at a local level. Call your primary care physician or pediatrician and ask when the peak flu season is in your area.
Ear Infections
All of these diseases are contagious through the air. Symptoms of measles include rash, cough, fever, runny nose and can lead to other infections such as pneumonia and ear infections and encephalitis (a brain infection). Symptoms of mumps include fever, muscle pain, loss of appetite, headaches and can lead to deafness and meningitis and infertility in males. Symptoms of rubella include fever and rash. The MMR vaccine is given in two doses; the first between 12-15 months of age and the second 4-6 years of age.
Emergency Care
University of Rochester Medical Center (Strong Memorial Hospital) and Rochester General Hospital have dedicated pediatric emergency rooms. Should your child need urgent care or hospital-level care, please visit these facilities. Please call your doctor first for any non-life threatening emergencies prior to going to the emergency room. Many urgent matters such as stitches, injuries and illnesses can be taken care of at the office. Never use the emergency room for minor illnesses.

X-rays required Monday-Friday during regular business hours are done at Borg and Ide Radiology. The x-rays are read by the radiologist on site and the report is called/faxed to your physician who then designates the next step in care, as needed. After hours, or on weekends, you may be referred to the emergency room or orthopedic care sites as directed by the physician for emergent situations.
