Overall
Excellent Service

Hello, I thought i would write to tell of my experience with Penninsula Building Materials. I work at a nursing home and we were building multiple brick planter boxes on our patios. We went to Penninsula the first time and Connie helped us. She showed us the difference between a couple different types of bricks we could use and also helped us to figure out which one was the best value to save us some money. We were very happy with the service, they delivered the bricks and the mortar we ordered the next day for a small fee, and we have ordered many times since then. They have a lot of everything! We have ordered concrete, morter, hallow blocks, caps, bricks, stones, and even Top soil dirt to fill our planters with. The operation is great from the sales counter to the professional delivery guys, and if you get a chance, ask for Connie. She is great and it's the best place in the business!!! I would recommend using them every time you can, it was a joy buying from them!!!

It was a nightmare doing business with Peninsula Building Materials

I am sure not many customers had a similar experience with this company lest Peninsula Building Materials wouldn't exist. I really hope mine was an isolated case.

We purchased bitterroot natural ledge face rock to cover 255SF of concrete wall. The rock included 234SF of flats and 26 LF of corners. When we were done using up the delivered material, we had about 37SF uncovered concrete wall. When I called them to report the shortage, they sent somebody who came to the project site on two occassions. He took several hours to measure the material, spread the scrap and measure it several times to tell me that they delivered enough material. They said ""if you buy 30SF, we'll throw in 7SF."" The reason they gave was that we had stacked it up without gaps. That's not true. There are more gaps than the scrap can cover. I called another company and asked them if I should buy more SF than the wall. They said you buy exactly the same SF as the wall even if you dry stack the rock. It makes sense because we pay for the rock, not the gaps between them. The owner/manager of Peninsula Building Materials DID NOTHING to gain my loyalty for the company. He even said ""we were in business for 85 years and we don't need customers like you..."" I was thinking to myself, stick to that attitude and see how many more years you can stay in business in this internet era. I went there with the exact measurements, they recommended the quantity to buy, which I bought without questioning. Now they say I have to buy more material!!! They even suggested weighing the scrap to figure out the SF of scrap. Who said ""the customer was always right?"" Not at Peninsula Building Materials, I don't think.
