As I was born in Italy, I was happy to find E' Tutto Qua, a reasonably priced and friendly restaurant that really serves food just like I would find in Rome today. The pizza is Roman style with thin, crispy crust and the pastas are all authentically Italian in the preparation and ingredients, no short cuts here. I loved the "Gnocchi allo Zafferano" ~ Saffron gnocchi with zucchini, clams, tomato & white wine sauce. Another favorite is the "Tagliata di Manzo" ~ Grilled New York steak topped with cherry tomatoes, arugola & shaved parmesan cheese. They have a huge selection of both "house-made" and "imported from Italy" desserts. After the opening in June 2007 they already have a local following just for their fantastic Tiramisu. The wine list features both Italian and Californian wines and is very reasonably priced. End it all with one of their perfect espressos or cappuccinos, then go home feeling you have just had a "mini-vacation" to Italy! The service is attentive and helpful, these people really seem to care about their customers. Dress goes from casual to trendy chic looks. The crowd is a nice mix of all ages, nationalities and lifestyles. They are open from morning til late night. Atmosphere and location are just right, lively and fun dining in a historic old bank building with great views of the neighborhood. One interesting point that many locals have noted is that the Italian waiters from several other restaurants in the city are seen eating here on their day off. That says a lot about the authenticity of this place. I'm hooked!

My BF and I stopped in to get a slice of pizza, and ended up getting a whole pizza that was perfectly delicious. We were served bread and a garlic in olive oil/olive oil/pesto in olive oil dip that was out of this world (we asked for thirds... ha!!). While we searched to the menu to see what we wanted, we were waited on by the bar staff (as we were sitting at the bar) and they made us two fantastic cocktails (a two tony's for my bf, and a house vodka martini for me). After much deliberation (and our tummy's grumbling) we decided to go with something simple. It was the Margherita pizza ($18): Thin crust with a fluffy end, the perfect red sauce AND CHUNKS OF MOZARELLA AND WHOLE PIECES OF BASIL. We scarfed it up before we could take a picture. It was sooooo delicious!! We will DEFINITELY be returning. The whole experience was the best ever (and I am one very hard to please!)
Thin crust, just enough sauce and great melty cheese. This is the pizza you get used to on the East Coast. I am not a fan of plain cheese pizza but at Amicis it takes so good. We are able to eat a whole large between two people. Its that good. Its pricey for pizza so we don't eat it often but every time we leave there we are satisfied (therefore 4 stars). We usually also order the garden salad for the family. Simple - lettuce, bell pepper, onion - and a dressing. They have pretty good house wines also. Though you cant beat Pizza and soda (the soda is served in the old style soda glasses). Other pizzas that are great are the new haven clam and sausage and mushrooms. their wood burning oven makes the crust real crisp and tasty!!
If you haven't had a slice from Marcellos, you haven't really lived yet. From the moment you walk into this quaint yet qwerky establishment you'll know you have found something special. Maybe its the fact that this little jewel is located in the free thinking castro that gives it the mystique. Or maybe just maybe its the perfect crust with just the right amount of fresh toppings, you decide. For me its the ability to walk in at just about any time of the day and late into the evening and find something new and exciting in there choices. So if you want to try some of the best this city has to offer look no further!!!!! You have found what your taste has been looking for.
Thanks to the fans of Arinell Pizza! Here I was, craving good pizza and didn't know of any good places. I miss Pizzeria Uno's at Lombard. I loved their deep dish, cornmeal crust pizza. I Googled it, and now the closest location is in the East Bay. Well, I got on the internet some more and found reviews of this place. Parking is always shaky in the city, but after circling a couple of times, lucked upon a spot. I walked in and proceded to eat like it was going out of style. I love their crust, the sauce was good and the service was phenomenal! I will be going back to Arinell's, but first I'll make sure I have more room in my belly next time because it's that good!
I'm a big fan of Little Star Pizza. Their pizza is great, but you need to wait an hour to be seated, and they don't deliver. While looking for some alternatives I found Patxi's. They deliver and you can order online. Being a Chicago style pizza, they take a while to make, so it took about 75 minutes from the time I ordered to when I got the pizza. It was delicious and worth the wait. The only downside was that the pizza was warm-hot instead of being out-of-the-oven hot. That's expected for a delivered pizza, but until I taste one of their out-of-the-oven hot pizza's I think Little Star's pizzas are still slightly better. Both are very very yummy though.
I stumbled upon this restaurant one day and found their pizza to be superior to any other pizza I've ever tasted. Sure the staff isn't the most friendly I've come across, but I'm there for the food (which is delicious) not conversation with the waiters. I used to believe Round Table had the best pizza until I ate here. Pasquales pizza is unique. Their fresh ingredients definitely are evident in the taste - but it's their quality also. And it's that unique taste and quality that's made my family a loyal customer of theirs for almost 3 years, even though we have to drive from the central valley to enjoy it. It's worth the trip!
Capri has a banner on their wall commemorating their 24+ years in business, and it’s no wonder why-- I’ve been a regular customer since the 1980s and they richly deserve their success. The wait staff is always friendly and funny, and the owners greet the customers and obviously appreciate the business coming through the door. The food is great-- the pizza has the proper San Francisco chewy crust, and the huge variety of pastas are at a price so low I don’t know how they make a profit. Ask to sit by the window-- the people-watching and street scene are all part of the package (it’s the Castro, Mary).
This place is AMAZING!!! Possibly one of the best dinners I've ever had. The cocktails are freakin' delicious and the pizza I had, The Castro, was absolutely outstanding. Not to mention the cool but not pretentious atmosphere, I never wanted to leave! Plus, the waitress was exceptionally nice and in her efforts to look out for me, made sure I caught a cab back to my hotel rather than hoof it back, as I had done to get there. Seriously, this place is fantastic and I couldn't recommend it any stronger!!
When I lived in the neighborhood, we ordered from here. The pizza is good - large slices. Very expensive, though, and their delivery was usually bad. Showed up really late, food cold or burned; etc. They usually offered to fix it, but the last time, they did not and the driver was really rude. So I stopped ordering. There are better pizza places (including Giardanos down the street), but, if you do want to eat here, I recommend eating at the restaurant.
