Had reservation made four months in advance. Called the night before to advise the counter person that we would be there at about midnight. Was told, "No problem." Arrived the next night at 11:55 p.m. The counter person named "Sat" entered my name into his computer, paused, and then said, "You canceled." I told "Sat" that I had called the night before, and that I did not cancel! "Sat" said that he was there the night before and that I didn't call to confirm. My paperwork for the reservation says "Confirmed." He again said, "You canceled,". "Sat" is a liar. So now, thanks to "Sat" an older couple (68 &70) had no place to stay at midnight. I began checking all the local hotels. They did a computer check and determined that no hotel had an available room. We began driving, and eventually found a dumpy motel 44 miles west. As dumpy as it was, it was better than sleeping in the rental car in a strange area.
Follow up: A "Tina," the PR person called one week later. She said that at 6 p.m. on the day of arrival they had attempted to bill my charge card, but the card company delined the payment. Then I remembered that my wife had left that charge card in a restaurant a couple of months earlier which prompted me to cancel that card. However, I do remember telephoning the hotel on the day of the reservation and wanting to make payment on the room in advance. I was told that payment would be made against my charge card when I arrived. Tina also said that there was no record of me telephoning the night before to advise them of my arrival time? What would it have taken for the Desk Clerk to telephone my cell phone to get a valid charge card number instead of canceling my reservation? .....a couple of minutes?
