We recently purchased our first home, and found a beautiful Clayton brand home at this dealership. We love our Clayton mobile home, but the customer service we have experienced from Southern Homes during installation of our home has made this process a nightmare. We purchased the home without financing, explaining that we were unfamiliar with the permitting and installation process, and we were reassured by our salesman that we would receive their help throughout. After the home was paid for, it was like pulling teeth to get any help from anyone at Southern Homes. It seemed impossible to even get a phone call returned. The house was not delivered when scheduled, was not set up when scheduled, and the contracting company that Southern Homes set us up with was also less than helpful. Every step of the installation process took longer than we were told, and it seemed to take longer simply because of their negligence and refusal to do what they said they would. After our home was finally installed, we had to wait 6 WEEKS for them to finish the drywall because they did not know what paint colors were used in the home. The drywall finisher they contracted for us was told to lie and say that his truck broke down to cover for the fact that they failed to go to Home Depot to buy our paint when they said they would. I was told that I was referred to as the "crazy lady" by the dealership manager. I guess it's "crazy" to inquire as to why it took them 6 weeks to have paint mixed at Home Depot.
I would stay as far away from this company as possible. And definitely do everything you can to ensure they don't get full payment for your home until they've completed the work they promise to do.
That being said, our Clayton home is beautiful and the manufacturer (who is not affiliated with Southern Homes) has been wonderful to work with.
I would not use them at all. If I could of went back in time I would have picked someone else. I was treated more as an employee then a customer while paying them. I wanted to save money because of the prices that were given with the set up of everything example well, septic, air ect so I got contractors to do it way lower but everytime that I would provide them wth the information something else came up to cost more money instead of them advising you upfront cost there are alot of hidden cost with buyting and moveing there homes. Also if you dont rush to get things that are needed done for them you are placed on the back burner and if you chose to wait a day to get something else done then they make you use there contractor. For example I had wanted a contractor that I wanted to do my air setup he was qualified with all the license workers comp and ect but because he could not come out and set up the air on thurseday and that they were coming out on monday then I was forced to use there ac man that cost a $100 more out of pocket for a littler ac unit. During the whole set up of moving this home to our land was a total nightmare. We had to buy our own stuff to go around the home inorder to pass the final inspection and was told that we would be reimburse but of coarse they did not, we also had to go and take off work all through the whole thing which took 6 months to do we had to go and buy our own permits I never understood if they wanted us to pay them ontime we needed to keep our jobs instead having to leave. We were also kept being told that closeing on our home and land would be on date and then another date and it changed several times and when we got to the one date the time changed and really could not ask any questions nor could barley understand the laywer because they wanted more money and argued with the loan officers of the closing cost so we ended up closing 2 hours later so everyone was in a rush. So it was just a nightmare and would not recommend anyone to them.
