Chuck's isn't just a typical deli--not by a long shot. Of course they have great sandwiches, but they also have special order cakes i.e. one woman wanted a motor home, another wanted a scorpion!! (can't imagine why!) They also have great cheescake, and a specialty item-mice. A type of confectionary thing which is about the size of a mouse, and it looks much like one, with big "ears" a tail, etc. and is delicious! Kids love 'em. Another thing which makes a visit there very special is the original art by local artists which is for sale. The pictures are changed every quarter so there is always something new to see or buy. There is also a piano to add music on special occassions. There is a meeting "room" which will accomodate 12-15 people. They have a drive-thru windown, too. Chuck's deli is definitely a place to visit, and also a place to have a great meal!
Great place to sneak away and get work done or for a casual meeting. The half winter moon is the office favorite and you can find us there for team meetings frequently. Ask for the wifi password and you're all set!
For that special meal between 6 shots of liquor and Breakfast, there is no better place to be than Magnolia Cafe! Quick and friendly service paired with delicious fresh food, makes this South Lamar diner my go-to Late Night/Breakfast destination. Loved it!!!
I stopped by because I LOVE Dominican Coffee and the location was convenient. I am a coffee junkie and I am ADDICTED to Starbucks. I chose this over Starbucks because of the free wifi and the place is big and comfy. I was PLEASANTLY surprised!! I ordered the vanilla latte. It was the best cup of…
I live in S Austin and go to Erie Bean at least a couple times each week. The coffee is good and less expensive than all the chain places (e.g. Starbucks). The staff is friendly but more important they are genuine - the owners even work the coffee bar certain times. They also have free live m…
11. Thai Fresh
I was fortunate enough to tumble upon Thai Fresh in South Austin. They have a counter where you can order authentic Thai dishes prepared fresh, daily. The owner, Jam, and her staff use a lot of fresh, local, seasonal ingredients. She also has a huge wall of spices, sauces, and Thai ""groceries""…
But now the important thing--the coffee. IT'S GOOD. I MEAN IT IS GOOD. Sorry, did I say how good it was? Personally, I'm a straight-up-black-coffee drinker (and will be til the day I die), so I love a coffee with a nice rich flavor. Once Over undoubtedly has some of the best coffee I've had…
Friendly people serving up my favorite iced latte. The breakfast tacos are delicious -- don't forget the spicy, green hot sauce! Every weekend there is great music playing on the patio. Jo's House Band is a good one to catch. This is a great place to sit back and enjoy SoCo.
18. Austin Java
We go here at lease once a week- everything is awesome!! We brings the dogs outside on the patio. Love the tortilla soup and peanut chicken sandwich- the tuna sandwich is a bit dry but other than that everything rocks.
My husband and I went to Braise last night and enjoyed a really lovely meal. We started with the french onion soup which was light and tasty. Also had the crispy pork belly with collard greens which was delicious -- the pork was crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside. I would go back…
Went here recently with a friend. Service was good, atmosphere good but a tad overpriced. Got the special and it was like $25 and kinda small. I guess I just like more food for $25 but I liked every bit of it: shrimp and steak.

From Business: Forthright is a continental-style cafe utilizing local farm to table ingredients. We're located on the corner of Brazos and Cesar Chavez at the Four Seasons complex adjacent to Lady Bird Lake. We’re blending a high-end coffee program with classic, chef-prepared dishes. Honest food and a charming atmosphere will appeal to t…
I think this may be the first or second 5 star rating I've given out so far and it's well deserved. With so much Tex-Mex in town, El Chile has managed to set themselves apart and still stay true to Tex-Mex. I don't know how they do it, but everything I order from there is phenomenal. It's usually pretty hard to get in on weekends, especially in the evenings. I would suggest mid-day lunchtime on the weekends or dinner on the weekdays. The service is usually pretty good and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. It's usually very loud so be prepared to shout at times during dinner. Parking can be scarce at peak times, so that's another reason to go during off-peak times. I could fill up on their free chips and two types of salsa alone, but I would highly recommend the chile rellenos and tres leches cake!
One night I had guests out of town and talked highly of the place. We went to see the band that was playing 7-9 p.m. and paid $6 cover charge.. After the first band finished, second band was going to start at 9:30. Store personel came and told us we have to go out (it was a cold night ) and come back paying another $9 cover charge for the next band...go out and come back in...it is not a good business idea. charge people moderate cover charge and do not let the inconvenience scare people away. of course we didnt stay for the second band just because it was so rude to let us out and tell us to come back half an hour ...such a decent idea Ruta Maya trying to reflect but this was not acceptable if they want to stay classy. Hope managers can read this and take some action because we want to keep going to our Ruta Maya.
Dear Family Man This place is good for a light moment with your wife or partner once in a while may be once in 2 years...bring kids n file bankruptcy. The cakes are cold...stale cream, mediocre assortment and expensive hot n cold bevs. Great place to sit chat relax outside the cafe overlooking the lake. If you like looking at college kids reading, browsing, may be studying, playing card games or simply whiling away their precious time by all means feel free to come and waste your money and time ..... I would rather go to the new whole foods where they have abundant assortment of fresh deserts and are sweet to sample if you are confused. Service is mediocre as well and most young people working here are not well trained on the contents of their deserts.
Kenny's Coffee House is great for getting a bite to eat or a quick coffee - especially for those of us who live in Wells Branch. Their breakfast tacos are great and reasonably priced, but I think La Brissa's tacos are a little better, and they have homemade salsa. I have also tried their breakfast platters, like eggs and biscuits and gravy - it's all pretty good. I like that their coffee is freshly roasted, not shipped in. The iced coffee and espresso drinks I've had have been very good. It's a plus that they have wifi if you need to get a little work done. I do have to say that if I didn't live in Wells Branch, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit Kenny's, but it's definitely worth going if you live nearby. Support local biz!
This place just opend up a few months ago and I've only been there once. It was OK, but I'm still reserving my opinion. The theme is a little bit cheesy to me, but this little section of town has needed a local coffee shop for a long time. So, kudos to these guys for opening one up! I ordered a mocha which was OK, but not that great. It was a little watery tasting. I was there in the middle of the afternoon so it was very pleasant and quiet. It looks like they have a stage for live shows, so watch out for loud nights if you don't want to scream to your partner in a small enclosed space. The service was nice and the baristas are dressed in kung-fu looking clothes. It was kind of cute, but again, kind of cheesy.
Star Seeds is a solid Austin diner experience. The food can get pretty greasy and not top quality, but it hits the spot when you've got the late night munchies. Their coffee isn't great and the service is usually OK. If you're in a really bad mood, get the breakfast platter with sausage gravy over biscuits, topped with scrambled eggs. Parking can be a pain, but you can usually find something on the side street. Oh, and they're open 24 hours, so you can always drop by 24/7.
Whenever I feel like I'm OK with spending about $10-$12 for coffee and dessert, I come here. The coffee is pretty good and the desserts are usually pretty good too. Sometimes they might get a little stale from sitting the in cold fridge for a while. But really, you're paying for the location. They're located right on the lakeside and have tons of outdoor seating. This is a great place for groups or even an after dinner dessert with a date. Parking can be a pain though.
Made it a point to make plans to watch the Batman Movie here. It was the best decision ever. The screen is amazing. The sound at the theater is close to real. My wife was truly amazed as was I. I highly recommend this place to anyone. Be prepared to wait in line. Most are excited to attend here and people line up 2 hours before any showing.
I can always rely on Sorrentos for an after-work treat. Excellent coffee too. My cappuccino machine has broken this week and I'm relying on this coffee to pull me through this holiday lull. I always get a latte with an extra shot of espresso.
