My husband and I moved to the Springfield area in August 2015 from Colorado. Neither of us were familiar with the area, so it took some time to find a city we were serious about buying a home in. We put together a list of homes to see in the Springfield/Ozark/Nixa area. Online, one of the homes auto-listed CATHERINE TIPTON who works for Carol Jones Realtors. We emailed we were interested in a few properties and did receive a prompt reply. We scheduled a full day to see 6-7 houses. We found "the one" which happened to be one WE found on our own, not one of the hundreds she sent to us matching our "criteria". That being said, we did need a realtor to unlock the door for us to take a look. After the day was coming to a close (about 7 hours later... it was tiring for all of us) we wanted to put in an offer on the house we found and loved. She received a phone call, and after hearing a 1-sided 5 minute awkward argument between her and her husband, she got the paperwork signed and told us we need to get our earnest money in ASAP by certified check. We still banked in CO, so after two days of not being able to obtain a certified check ASAP without being in person at the bank we called Catherine and she said a money order was also fine. That was a HUGE waste of our time and extremely stressful. From that point forward the loan process (totally different company) was long and time consuming, but went as smooth as possible for a lender. In the meantime Catherine told us we need to do a title search, get an inspection done, an appraisal done, find out all info about utilities, etc. We had to ask her for suggestions- she basically left it all for us to figure out. She didn't even help with a recommendation for homeowners insurance. We got our inspection back with MAJOR issues. Leaking roof, cracked foundation, broken brick siding, electric done without a permit and not working, broken panes of glass, etc. She called us and asked "do you want any if this fixed?" ARE YOU SERIOUS? Yes! All of the major stuff- YES! The seller fixed everything we asked, and we set a closing date. The final walk through was right before closing (literally 1 hour before). She was 20 minutes late. We walked thru, noticed the glass pane was broken, they did not leave the washer/dryer as states in the disclosures, and they also took light fixtures that were supposed to stay. Her response was "are these things deal breakers for you?" No, they were not, but she didn't want to bring them up to the sellers. We had to tell her we'd like it mentioned. We had to replace a pane of glass for $200 that was clearly there before we took possession of the home. We went to the title company, signed all the documents, and she left us without any paperwork about the county- well/water, propane, internet, TV, trash, phone, etc. NOTHING. No handshake, no congrats, no thanks for using Carol Jones gift, NOTTA. What really sealed the deal was when my husband went back to the title company to get a refund check and she was there. She saw him and acted as if she had no idea who he was. So bizarre. Again, she must have put in a good 10+/- hours for us and received an $8000.00 payday. Please, please, please look elsewhere. Get references. Home buying is a stressful time and your realtor should be on top of their game and there to work hard for you. We are so disappointed in our choice.
