Having grown up in TN and lived in TX before moving to NY, I try not to get my hopes up when I try a BBQ place purporting to have real or southern BBQ as I've often been disappointed. NOT this time!

My husband and I each choose an option that would give us two meats and two sides. I picked the smoked turkey and smoked chicken. My husband picked brisket and...okay, can't remember. ;) My sides were hush puppies and macaroni and cheese. He had the mac and cheese and, if I recall correctly, cole slaw. I wasn't paying much attention to his as I was enjoying mine so much! The smoked chicken was good, but the turkey was a star. And the hush puppies? Oh, I finally found GOOD hush puppies in the north! A lot of folks up here just think shoes when they hear "hush puppies."

The corn bread was simply delightful. I'm sure it's too sweet for folks who prefer a plain corn muffin, but this was a special treat: moist, flavorful, and with personality. Go really southern and top it with butter and honey.

I was surprised to find out they have complimentary soup! They had two choices. We both picked the potato, which featured some pork. Yummy, plain and simple. Since I noticed that donations for the soup were welcomed and would go to a nature trail related in some way to the local high school, we opted to contribute.

The young people were surprisingly friendly. We just moved from a college town where a lot of folks fail to have a service attitude even when that's their job, especially when they're high school or college-aged. The two young ladies and the young gentleman who interacted with us were friendly and helpful.

I'm glad we happened across this place! It's totally worth the 20 or so minutes it takes to get there from our place.

Taste of Texas Bar B Q

Has delicious pulled pork and corn muffins. Food is the best barbque I've had in along time. Just like home cooking and price is great.
