My wife and I were leaving the comfort and diversity of Chicago in late 2007 as we passed the unassuming exterior of this restaurant. With heavy traffic and hunger pangs, we pulled in. We found the service attentive and delightful (we have an energetic 20+ month son). The food surpassed anything we considered in the Windy City. The Dim-Sum fare was like nothing we'd ever seen and was well-prepared. The other guests were varied in age and race, indicating to us the restaurant was highly sought out and an oasis for all. It was definitely a family style restaurant. The costs were inexpensive relative to the amount of food and presentation. The New Furama is our staple when we go to Chicago. It was worth the trek from Fort Wayne and it is definitely worth the extra travel time when we're in town from San Antonio for local seminars and presentations. Because of its popularity, parking may be a problem, but we have never had to walk more than a block to get a space. We are uncertain how it is after dark - the neighborhood may be questionable - but it is definitely worth putting on the map for a daylight run.
I was in town for work, and had rented a nearby place nearby for a period of 1 week. Unfamiliar with the area and swamped with work, I decided to order out; the decision really came down to Pizza or Chinese for delivery options, and found this place really close by with delivery. I don’t exactly recall what sides I ordered by I remember ordering the Spicy Basil Beef. For delivery, it was fresher than I expected and it was very well priced for what you got. The delivery guy was super nice and super quick. What I remember most about the night was working diligently on this report for the client and just smelling the aroma of the basil even after I had finished the meal. I ended up ordering out from the same place again the next day for lunch—was not disappointed. I rarely order twice from the same place on business travel (heck, you got an expense account why not explore right?), but this is one of those off cases.
Dined in this restaurant for many years. I love eating-out at Orange Garden. Their Egg Rolls are crispy and fresh...I always soaked it with their home-made sweet and sour sauce...so are their crab Rangoons, pot stickers,....and BBQ Ribs. We always greet with friendly staffs and service of food is fast. What I like?? Best Orange Peel chicken/beef, Best Sesame dishes, Best mongolian Shrimp, Best Beef fried rice, Best............. in Chicago, too many to list. Making me hungry again...I need to go there tonight. They have been in business for over 75 years in this North Center Area of Chicago. Hope they will be there forever :)
Try their Shrimp Egg Foo. The patty is very good;the gravy is average. I love their steamed veggies and I've had both the Pork and Vegetable Fried Rice. They service it with rice that is tender and the Vegetable Fried Rice has huge pieces of broccoli, carrot, sprouts, etc. If you like pork in your fried rice...this is the place to order it. Both the Vegetable Fried Rice and the Pork Fried Rice are exceptional! And the egg roll is the best I've tasted on this side of town! I've only had delivery but if the eat-in is anything like the delivery, I just might drop in.
I have gone there many times and love it every time. The people who own it are a nice couple. The food is very cheap and satisfying. My friend got food for $11 there last time we went and he got Kung Pao Chicken, large Wanton Soup and free with it came two egg rolls that are the best I have ever had. He had enough for 2 meals after our lunch! And last time I went there I got their Orange Chicken and they actually use real pieces of Orange to help flavor better. If I was rich, I would eat there everyday.
I went for a party and was worried just like anyone else about how we were going to work out the bill in the end. Dragonfly Mandarin had a great party menu that made the cost equal amongst everyone which is always great in large groups. Everyone felt at ease and the food was really great. I had the orange chicken which had great flavors and a nice crunchy crisp that's sometimes lost among all the sauce. Not everyone else enjoyed their dishes so that's why it only got 3 stars.
I've eaten on and off at this place for the past 10 years and have never had a bad experience either with the service or with the quality of the food. Every dish I've ever ordered never failed to delight the palate and the volume of one order is enought to feed two adults with neither feeling hungry afterwards. Their lunch special is the best bargain around with a soda (yes, I'm a former New Yorker) to boot. I'd recommend them to anyone. Buen provecho and Bon apetit!
Hoe Toy is a great restaurant. The food has a taste like no other. I began eating at this establishment as a child.....many years ago. As an adult, I will drive in to the city and through the southside to indulge in this food. What is even more awesome is that the level of customer service and quality has not been sacrificed over the years. This one is definitely here to stay. I would encourage anyone to eat here. Best, TMT
Since starting the Atkins diet about one year ago, I have been searching for ways to stay within the boudaries of the low carb lifestyle in a fast food on the go type of way and carryout buffets come in handy. They have the best roast pork that i have ever tasted and their menu is vast. Everything else that I have tried is wonderful. Check it out; It's in the mall with the KMart and Unique Thrift store.
For under $10 all you can eat. Huge selection of just about everything. They have seafood, Chinese food, fries, chicken sticks, drinks, soups, salads, deserts. Everything is really good and they keep pretty fresh food out. They have a huge dining area with nice size tables. Pretty nice workers. I would recommend going early after since evenings are pretty crowded. A nice family restaurant for a great price.
