First - I have to comment on the 2 negative reviews. I know no one is perfect but those reviews are 100% contrary to the Joel Russman I have known for years.I was first referred to Joel 8 years ago when I was purchasing my home (my first in CO) and needed an attorney to review the contract. I'm originally from Chicago where all real estate transactions involve attorneys. My attorney had to be out of the country at the last minute and couldn't help me. Joel came as a referral from a trusted friend. I wanted him to review the real estate contract even though he explained (for free) that CO has standardized contracts for home purchases and I didn't really need him to review it. He was clear, concise and fair in his pricing and he has a great sense of humor.Since then, Joel has been an invaluable asset in dealing with a crazy neighbor in both criminal and personal injury cases (the crazy neighbor harassing and then trying to sue me and my partner). He worked with my insurance company's attorney seamlessly when that attorney was assigned to defend us in the personal injury suit filed by the neighbor. And his rates were beyond fair, not to mention that he again brought his compassion and humor to a tough situation that put me at ease. I can't tell you how important it is to have an attorney who treats you like a human being when you are being threatened, stalked and sued by someone who is crazy. The stress is through the roof, yet Joel is calm and kind. He's also been a valuable consult in reviewing my rental lease agreements for my tenants and offering valuable insight. Joel has a strong moral compass, charges reasonable rates and gets the job done after walking through all of the alternatives. I would recommend Joel to anyone who wants a quality attorney who cares about his clients.
The experience working with Erika was hands down the most comfortable I felt about my situation the entire time. I was denied my workers compensation claim and she put me at ease the first time I spoke to her. Working with her was pleasant and every experience with her I felt like we were gaining ground. She recommended I get an independent examination and by taking her advice just a few days later the company reached out to figure out a settlement. She ended up negotiating more then I would have expected going to court. I do believe this was due to her knowledge of the system. I would never have gotten where I did as fast as I did without her. As far as scheduling and administrative responsibilities Fran was amazing. She worked with me on schedule to make sure I was able to get the information I needed at the time that worked for my schedule. Being in a hospitality field her customer service was top notch. I normally am not fully comfortable signing documents without being skeptical. Erika and Fran both made it painless they were trustworthy and what they said was true. Honesty is a huge thing in a situation like this for me because I don't know who to trust. I am not in legal I do not understand how most of this works. By putting my trust in them I came out way further ahead then I ever thought I would. Thank you from the bottom of my Heart Erika you have allowed my family to continue to grow and took the biggest black spot completely out of the frame. This is worth more then any settlement ever would be.
I have known Christine Swenson for few years now, first as an interpreter for Christine while she was working through RMAIN as a volunteer attorney helping a client through some difficult times. Christine then told me about her work at Mi Casa in Denver, Colorado where she also offers clients expert legal advice pro-bono. I knew immediately that Christine was an attorney dedicated to helping her clients through the maze of the U.S. legal system, and with Christine both the paying clients and the clients she works with pro-bono receive the same expert attention. Further, I have had the privilege of listening to Christine during the many educational seminars she has given take her audience step by step through the immigration process in such a way that even with the most complicated issues, all had a better understanding. Not only does Christine draw on her extensive trial court knowledge as on former Deputy District Attorney and former law professor, Christine makes it part of her routine to keep up with all the details of the ever changing immigration issues and to put her clients at ease, Christine also speaks Spanish. Immigration law is extremely complicated and from what I have witnessed first-hand, Christine Swenson is the Immigration Attorney of choice.David Martin TuckerSpanish Interpreterhttp://www.spanishdavid.com
Excellent job in court last week! It is nervewracking dealing with the emotional drama and uncertainty of going to court. I lost sleep, lost focus on other activities and worried constantly about losing my children or not getting enough financial assistance from my ex (who makes 4 times my income). My husband would not settle on anything and I honestly started buying into his threats that I would get nothing and he would get the kids half the time. My attorney was Tony Jarrett. I felt like Mr. Jarrett understood what I was going through and knew what I needed. He was dominant in the courtroom. His objections were sustained. His points were well taken by the judge. He was much more prepared than my husband's attorney. The orders that were handed down were very fair and almost exactly what I had proposed at mediation. My husband turned red with anger as the judge read the order and then he bolted out of the courthouse without even talking to his attorney. If your divorce is stressful or full of conflict, you need an attorney who is strong in the courtroom and who will give you sound advice along the way. I highly recommend my attorney to anyone.
Paul Wilkinson was not only a great attorney his staff was courteous and helpful when I had questions about my case and when I needed to talk to Paul he had no problem getting on the phone. I've had several attorneys in my life and I have to say this was the friendliest and most attentive law firm and attorney I've ever had. No one wants to get in car accidents and if I never have to go through that again I'll die a happy man but if the worst happens I will only be going to one law firm, Paul Wikinson. Paul had no problem taking time to explain our options, what he could and could not do and give me the ability to choose what I want to do with my case. My wife and I owe him a lot and thanks to him we got back on track even after the persons that hit us insurance company refused to acknowledge that they were their client; Paul took care of that quick. I have been sending anyone I know to Paul if they have a car accident and all are happy with him and his law firm. I read that first reviewer and I cannot find any people with "similar experiences" to them, don't believe the tripe, only Paul will win your fight!
I highly recommend Abrams & Associates. They are skilled lawyers and produce great results. This is truly an exceptional law firm and Mr. Abrams is a very capable lawyer.Abrams & Associates is a small firm, but they make up for it through their aptitude, efficiency and experience. Their expertise is apparent in their practice and in the results they produced for me. Mr. Abrams was very hands on in my case and consulted with me about every decision. He is a great communicator and always guided me in understanding the legal process in my case. In my construction defect case and underlying insurance bad faith lawsuit, Mr. Abrams worked to get me and my wife excellent settlement money. We completely fixed our home and paid all of our attorney’s fees and had money left over. Great Result Mr. Abrams!!Abrams & Associates, LLC is a great law firm that I recommend and would work with again on any real estate, construction or business issues. I strongly endorse using their valuable legal services.
My name is Leslie. My daughter was in a car accident and hurt very badly. Rebecca and Paul have been wonderful to her. unfortunately I have known my share of lawyers and I have to say this is the best experience I have ever had. The staff at the office are great. Both Rebecca and Paul treated us like we were great friends. They were respectful, helpful and always put my daughters needs first. Rebecca calls just to see how she is doing. Both have given her great advice not just as lawyers but as people who care and want to see her succeed. Whenever we are at the office Paul always greets us and makes sure we are comfortable. I have referred my Brother to The Wilkinson Law Firm and have been told nothing but good things from him about Rebecca and Paul. Thanks to Rebecca and Paul my daughter finally has her life back! Thank You so much guys! I will always refer everyone to you. Please use me as a reference. I wish you did all Law so i wouldn't have to go anywhere else! Leslie Boucher
I felt I needed to post a review after reading the review on 10/21. I am a real client and my name is Tatia Romero. My attorney was Tony Jarrett and he did a great job. We went to mediation and my husband and I were $300 apart in our child support numbers. I asked my attorney what to do. One of the things he said is that I could pay him several thousand dollars to go to court to get a small benefit or try to work it out so I could save my money and use it on my kids. He suggested we try to work it out. We agreed to use a dollar amount that was $75 less than my number and $225 more than my husband's number. I felt like it was a fair deal and I saved thousands of dollars. My attorney was looking out for my best interests and was not after my money. To the person below me, there is way more to your story and you are lying about our attorney's intentions and ability. I give a triple thumbs up to my attorney. I would hire him again in a heartbeat.
Mr. Solomon did an excellent job in handling an unfortunate situation in my life. Over the span of 3-4 months Mr. Solomon took care of all aspects of my case at a fair price and was in constant contact with me making sure I was both updated on the situation and that any concerns were alleviated. After my sentencing concluded with the minimum charges possible (an overall success), I was under probation and facing conditions from a private probation company that I did not feel were fair or court ordered. Mr. Solomon returned to my defense after the initial case had concluded, writing a motion to dismiss these conditions and representing me in front of the judge again in a one time free of charge appearance The judge agreed with us in this instance and due to the help provided by Mr. Solomon these unjust conditions were considered unlawful. I highly recommend Mark Solomon to anyone needing legal representation in his field of expertise in Colorado.
Colin is an excellent, highly ethical and aggressive attorney. Once he was convinced that I’m innocent of heinous false allegations that came from what seems to be my ex-wife, he vigorously defended me like a champ. He wouldn’t care about anything except giving me my life back and prove that I’m innocent. His skills in the court room and in writing aggressive motions are undisputable. He would bend any lair witness on the witness stand in a blink of an eye. But he also understands the politics of our justice system, and avoids putting his client at risk even if there is 1% chance for risk. He is an expensive attorney, but money was the last thing I needed to think about when I was facing these immoral and vicious allegations during a divorce and custody battle. His entire office staff is excellent and was very supportive during this tough time. I’d recommend Colin in the high profile cases, and wouldn’t trust anybody else, but him.
The legal profession is vast, with each attorney having his or her specialties. Here are some of the most common attorneys individuals seek out when they require legal aid:
A criminal defense lawyer is probably the attorney the average person imagines. Criminal attorneys are the men and women who defend individuals accused of a crime. The lawyer may work pro bono - for the public good - so the accused is certain to have representation, even if he or she cannot afford an attorney.
Criminal lawyers are experts in the criminal justice system. They help their clients decide how to plead when first charged by the police and guide them through trial procedures. Defense lawyers must use every bit of their knowledge and resources to get their clients the fairest results from criminal proceedings.
If you are a small business owner or the head of a larger corporation, you may come into contact with a business lawyer. Many big companies keep a legal staff on payroll to deal with the daily operations of running and maintaining a large enterprise. Business lawyers may have more specific specialties like copyright law, product liability and mergers and acquisitions.
Business attorneys may focus their practices on certain industries. There are entertainment lawyers to guide artists through royalties and media contracts, while hospitals employ malpractice attorneys to protect doctors from aggressive litigation.
When you work for a company, you may find yourself in need of an employment lawyer - especially if the relationship between you and your employer sours. An employment attorney prevents people from losing their jobs due to unfair reasons. Workers' compensation lawyers help maintain safe employment conditions and ensure workers receive fair compensation after workplace injury or discrimination.
A personal finance attorney can protect and manage your investments and securities. You may use a finance lawyer to help you prepare your taxes, but you might be better off working with an accountant. A tax attorney is more commonly contacted after a business or individual runs into trouble with the IRS or state regulators.
Real Estate Lawyer
Your family may keep a lawyer on retainer to guide you through the major expenses that come up in life. When buying a home, you could work with a real estate lawyer to make sure you get the best deal and won't get taken advantage of by tricky mortgage agreements or unfair landlords. An estate attorney can help you plan for the worst by creating a will and preparing your finances for after your death.
A bankruptcy lawyer is essential to help you resolve your financial difficulties when they start to spin out of control. Certain attorneys help create strategies to bring you out of debt and speak to your creditors. A lawyer can advise you on which type of bankruptcy you should file for.
If you are suing someone or being sued, you need a civil lawyer. Civil attorneys - and criminal lawyers - are the legal representatives who argue on your behalf in a courtroom setting. Civil lawyers may represent you on matters of business, finance or a wide variety of other specialized needs.
One of the most common types of civil attorneys is a personal injury lawyer. When you're hurt by an outside party and you would like to hold them legally responsible, a personal injury attorney conducts litigation and negotiates settlements to compensate for your pain and suffering. Sometimes many wronged people will join together with a single civil lawyer or law office to form a class action lawsuit.
Most people will turn to a lawyer during a divorce to navigate the emotionally charged legal proceedings. A divorce attorney can assist in determining grounds for separation, division of property and custody of children.
Family attorneys deal with much more personal matters. If you're getting married, a family lawyer can help you prepare a prenuptial agreement or other family planning paperwork such as adoption or inheritance documents.
To ensure you find a competent attorney who won't abuse your trust or drain your finances, you have to make the proper inquiries. There are several questions you should ask, but the majority will fall under three general topics:
Training and Experience Questions
One of the best ways to determine quality is to examine an attorney's history. When you first step into a lawyer's office, you should check for the appropriate certifications and diplomas. You have to ask how long he or she has practiced law and request information that demonstrates the practice's success. Look for precise details such as percentage of cases settled out of court.
Once you inquire about the broad details of their legal career, you should ask questions about their experience that pertains to your specific issue. You should ask how many similar cases they have handled and if they have special skills or training that applies specifically to your needs. Lawyers can't mention clients by name, but you should ask for basic details about identical past cases.
You need to ask about every possible fee that will come up when working with an attorney. You should request a list of all costs in advance so you won't be surprised by additional expenses like overhead. Also determine exactly when you will start being billed. You want to inspect paperwork carefully. If the attorney charges you for his or her experience, you need to make sure he or she will perform tasks personally and not hand it off to an assistant.
Find out if the attorney has a flat fee or charges by the hour. Many civil lawyers work on contingency. Whatever the payment plan, make inquiries about how the lawyer plans to provide service for your money and what you can do if you start to feel unsatisfied with his or her performance.
Lawyer/Client Relationship Questions
When you hire a lawyer, you're agreeing to work with someone over a certain period of time. You need to ask questions about how the attorney will communicate with you and what responsibilities you hold in the relationship. The attorney should let you know the best channel for quick communication and you need to inform him or her when you want updates.
You should also ask questions to get to know the attorney as an individual in order to ensure this is a person you can trust. Ask about their legal philosophy and how he or she views the lawyer/client relationship. Great questions to start off with are ones that will make your life easier, such as how to keep fees down or what daily disruptions you should expect from a long legal battle. The more forthcoming the lawyer appears to be with individual needs, the better.
You may keep a lawyer on retainer or you could turn to an attorney during specific situations. Here are some common reasons people begin seeking legal representation or advice:
You Know Your Limitations
If you sign documents and you come across a word you don't recognize, you need assistance. You may need a third party to help you navigate important employment or real estate paperwork. It's essential you fully understand the terms of any legally binding documentation or activity you become a part of. If you are not an expert in a given field, you'll want to hire an attorney who is.
A lawyer may find legal implications or opportunities you might miss. If you find yourself in a civil or criminal matter, a proper attorney ensures you don't receive a harsh punishment for a small mistake.
You're Facing an Important Event/Decision
When making decisions critical to your financial stability or personal life, you may want a lawyer with expertise in your situation to make sure you do everything you can to arrive at the proper resolution. This is especially true when you become involved in a criminal case and your freedom is on the line.
It's not just a matter of legal knowledge; lawyer's have access to numerous resources you do not. They have staff ready to work around the clock and experts in a variety of fields to give your important issues the attention they deserve.
You Can't Be Impartial
During times when personal matters intersect with legal proceedings, you may need to have an advocate to prevent your emotions from getting in the way of level-headed thinking. For example, divorce lawyers can mediate a heated argument and help both partners get on with their lives.
Emotional investment could be subtle. You may want to have a lawyer look over an investment opportunity that looks too good to be true or investigate the merits of a possible civil suit when you feel wronged.
You're Out of Options
Many people turn to lawyers when they are in trouble. If you've been accused of a crime or are in a terrible financial situation, you can find an attorney who will work with what you have available to assist you as you deal with your problems.
Personal injury lawyers find solutions for people who can no longer work under their own power and bankruptcy attorneys prevent people from giving in to debt. If you find yourself in a situation where you can't find a solution, a lawyer may be able to offer the counsel you need.
When it comes time to choose a lawyer, you should start by searching close to home. While you probably don't want the conflict of interest that comes from being represented by a family member, friends and loved ones can recommend lawyers who served them well in the past. If you do have attorneys you are familiar with, ask who they believe would be best for you.
After going through personal references - especially from individuals who had similar needs - you should broaden your search through public information resources. You can call your area's attorney referral service or check legal organizations like Martindale-Hubbell. There are other resources available online. You should check websites for client reviews and other third-party forms of approval.
When you build a list of possible candidates, perform a background check on each one. See if you can find information on their history and success record. Once you find a possible lawyer, you should call to arrange a consultation so you can ask your important questions in person.
By performing the necessary research and taking every available precaution, you can narrow your search to the attorney most suited to your needs.
