No matter whether an accident involved a freshly licensed teen or an experienced driver, knowing what to do (or not do) is essential to bouncing back.
All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
Howard and Sara Cole are my guardian angels. About a month ago, my car light came on. I have a 2011 Chrysler 200 and approx 49,000 miles on it. I took my car to AutoZone and they ran a code test and the print out stated that the the 6th cylinder was misfiring. The gentleman there said I probably needed a tune up. I took it to the dearlership and told them my engine light was on and they said they would do the tune up for 300 dollars. Didn't ask why I wanted one or anything like that. I soon realized they were just trying to get my money and really figure out what the issue was. I decided to take it to another place and they ran a code test too. The guy said I needed a tune up and quoted me at 185 for the labor and asked me to buy all the parts. This just didn't sound right to me so I jumped in my car and went down the road a ways. I pulled up the Cole's Auto and Transmission Repair and was greeted by Howard Cole. He asked how he could help me. I asked him if they did tune ups there and he said yes, but asked why I wanted a tune up. I then told him that my engine light was on and that AutoZone hinted that I needed a tune up. Howard asked what kind of vehicle I had and how many miles were on it. I provided the requested information. Howard right away said that he would do a tune up if I wanted one, but he didn't want me to waste my money because it wasn't going to fix the issue. He stated that was probably an issue with the ignition coil on the 6th cylinder. He said he would need to take a look at it and run a diagnostics check. Not even 30 minutes later, he came out and said that it was indeed the ignition coil that needed to get replaced and that my car did not need a tune up. Unfortunately, he didn't have the part. His wife Sara, got on the phone with the dealership and ordered one right away. I was in total awe with their honesty. The other two agencies would have done a tune up and it would not have corrected the issue at hand and my car would have continued acting up. When the part came in... Sara gave me a call, I took the car in and it was fixed within an hour and a half. We need more people like Howard and Sara in this world!! They are good people and will treat you like a neighbor or part of the family. TRUST THEM! They are definitely my shop from now on with all my car needs and I am going to suggest them to anyone who needs their car fixed!!!! God Bless them always!!!
I wrote this review a long time ago, but I lost the paper I wrote it on, but I found it today in my car. So, here it goes. I went to another place to get new tires & an oil change. They told me about some other work that needed to be done that was very costly. After having my girly breakdown moment, I decided to look up mechanics in Arlington. I came across positive reviews for Cole's Auto Repair and was very impressed. I took my car in the next day, and they were completely honest about what needed to be repaired and what was preventative maintenance. They checked my car and three hours later, my oil leak was fixed. I was amazed at how fast their service was. I told my sisters about Cole's and about my experience and then Tuesday rolled around I was back at Cole's, this time with my sister's car. She was having trouble with her cooling system; it would blow hot air when she was stopped, but would blow cold while driving. My sis had a new fan placed in her vehicle in December, but didn't drive her car for 6 months. I took it to Cole's and they diagnosed what was wrong with it. Turns out the place where she got the fan did not install it correctly and it was secured in place by extra wires, as well as, put in too much anti-freeze in it. Howard talked to our dad and let him know what was going on and reassured him that everything was going to be taken care of properly. My sis authorized the work and a few hours later it was done by for 5pm. Their kids asked if I would be back again and I told them hopefully I wouldn't be back. I came back again the following week to have more work done on my sister's car and it was done quickly. Howard and Sarah were so kind and helpful with everything. They have life-long customers in my sister and I and this is the only place I will take my car to from now on
I have a 1997 Pathfinder - older, but still runs fairly well. EXCEPT - all of a sudden, lots and lots of wear & tear stuff going crazy. I'd been lucky enough to have a 20-something on hand who could do the less-complicated stuff, but when my car just stopped and spewed coolant one day it turned out to be more than he could handle. My radiator was brand-spanking new, so I knew it wasn't that, but whatthuh?? We were pretty certain (after lots of driveway tinkering) that it was the water pump, but it just was not going to be accessible without way better tools and experience. Luckily, a Google search turned up Cole's. The couple who run this place are really great - very friendly, and extremely good at communicating exactly what is going on during the repairs. I turned out to have lots of other fun stuff going on (leaky seals, old & cracking belts & hoses) and Howard explained that while he had to have the timing belt & cover off anyway, labor to replace these things now is basically free (since he'll be in there already). He's also completely willing to be completely honest & walk away from extra money if he feels the work won't accomplish what you're trying to fix. That is a very rare quality in an auto repair facility! Their initial prices blew everyone else out of the water, and even with all the other stuff that was discovered (and it was all legit - they routinely keep your old parts assuming you'll want them, rather than the other way around) they were by far less expensive than anyone else we'd contacted. I feel much more comfortable knowing I have them as a resource for the next time I need a mechanic. Thanks, guys!
GO TO COLE AUTO REPAIR FOR ANY CAR REPAIRS PERIOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hands down cole's auto repair is the BEST auto repair center ever. Sara and Cole are the SWEETEST,KINDEST,HONEST people I have ever met in my life. Sara was so patient with me about explaining everything that had to be fixed and explaining it to where i understood everything that was wrong. They really care about their customers and providing excellent, quality service. Their kids are the cutest thing ever. I have been going to cole's for the past 4 months. I had my ac fixed which works like a dream since he fixed it, he replaced my timing belt, fixed my head gasket, and replaced my neutral safety switch. The first time i came to cole's was bci needed my brakes to be fixed and cole took a look at my car and it turned out it wasnt the brakes i needed to replace my tires i was surprised that he was so honest with me. Cole's is very affordable on any budget they never over charge you for anything and they get your car repaired very quickly. I have had no problem's with my car since I have taken it to cole's. Cole came in last sunday to repair my car bc there was more work that needed to be done then originally planned cole and sara explained it in detail to me what the problem was and what needed to be done to fix it and he came in early on his day off to fix it and to top it off he WASHSED MY MOTOR TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he didnt have to do either one of those things come in on his day off or wash my motor i was so amazed how caring he is. DO NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUT COLE'S AUTO REPAIR FOR YOU CAR REPAIRS NEEDS YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. Tasha A.
About a year ago, I spent about $1500 and two weeks with another shop, and they still didn't fix what seemed to be a simple problem. Luckily, I stumbled upon Cole's. $50 and about 2 hours later, the problem was resolved! Over the last year, the only person I have trusted to keep my car running is Howard Cole, proprietor and chief mechanic of Cole’s Auto. I have found him to be very thorough, and exceptionally honest. His diagnosis is always on target, and the work is always first rate. Cole’s prices are very competitive, but it is the quality of the work that keeps me coming back. Howard is absolutely obsessive about fixing things right. He clearly explains the issue and outlines options for repair. I also appreciate that the diagnosis is accurate, which means that the price quoted is usually the price i end up paying. I also appreciate the quality of customer service from the front office. Appointments are made and respected. Questions are thoughtfully answered. Prices are clearly outlined and explained. Customers are treated as a valuable part of the business. (Unlike so many other shops, where the customer is simply a walking wallet!) Lastly, Cole's is a family owned and operated business. I appreciate dealing with the individual owner operators. The quality of the work and the customer service is directly related to the fact that this is an owner operated business. If you have any auto repair needs, I strongly recommend that you use Cole's. You will be happy you did!
I first took my 98 Volvo S70 for CV Joints work earlier in 2009. NTB quoted me the same work approx. $600.00 more than what Cole's quoted me. Cole's Auto did the work Fast, Friendly and perfect!. The work is guaranteed for 1yr. I was so impressed, I went back a week later to have my timing belt, water pump and thermostat replaced. Volvo of Irving quoted my around $1600.00 to do the same work. Again, I received same day service, including an oil change with a 1yr warranty on parts/labor at Cole's for approximately $1100 less. Now, I went during lunch to get my front wheel alignment done at Firestone of Irving Mall. They refused to align my car unless I replaced the Ball joints, tie rods and struts. The total amount they quoted me was well over $2000.00. Once again, I called Cole's. Without looking at it and just getting a quote over the phone for Ball joints, tie rods and front wheel aligment, I was quoted a little over $700.00. No brainer... I went back to Cole's. The Owner, looked my car over and said I didn't need ball joints/tie rods, but maybe (based on mileage) just struts with an aligment. I ended up paying on same day service, approximately $400.00. I have a 1yr warranty on parts/labor. Had I gone to any of these other places for service, I would have paid out more than what my car may be worth. Thanks to the Honest, Fast, Friendly and most competative prices, I am keeping my car until the wheels fall off, and then take it back to Coles to get it ready for my kids to drive!
As a single female who knows very little about cars, I sometimes feel that I'm at the mercy of automotive repair mechanics. I had some problems with my car that I was sure were related to my transmission, so I started looking for a transmission specialist and ran across Cole's on this website. As they had lots of positive reviews, I decided to give them a call. I described to them the problem I was having and stated that the car "just didn't feel right." Sarah, by the way, is a great listener and remembered all the "symptoms" I described. It turned out not to be a transmission problem at all - Howard felt that it was a problem with the rack and pinion and gave me an estimate on replacing it. I accepted the estimate. After he actually got into the repair and was able to see more, he discovered that my rack and pinion were OK, but the bushings were not. Sarah called me to let me know the estimate on that repair, which was significantly less than the original estimate. A less than ethical mechanic would have replaced the rack and pinion anyway and charged me lots of money! Howard was also able to identify the cause of another problem I was having with my brakes and to fix it for a reasonable price. I've since driven my car and all the problems I was having are gone!! It's very reassuring to deal with an honest and competent mechanic. Also, Sarah is able to explain mechanical stuff in a way that's easily understood.
I recently had the opportunity to work with Sarah and Howard on some extensive repairs on a vehicle. We had bought the car from "friends" whose "mechanic" brother had supposedly gotten it great shape....he had the car, "fixed up like new for his littlebrother to drive" ....should have followed my gut but didn't.... Hmmmmm...well....you guessed it....that was definitely NOT the case. But then, what to do? We found the reviews for Coles Auto, and with much caution got an estimate for the repairs. We knew we had been taken by the seller, so were prepared for the costs. The important thing to us is to have a SAFE vehicle for a young driver. Howard explained in detail everything involved and WHY....Sarah got a full estimate with parts and labor printed out for us. I liked that we were told UPFRONT that, depending on transmission choices, the cost could vary. We believe in giving the experts the time they need to do a job right and were extremely pleased with the attention to detail that Coles provided. The BEST thing about dealing with an HONEST family business is this: I saw the Coles with their two adorable children, so when trying to decide what to do, I asked Howard if he would put his child behind the wheel of the car if she were 17? His affirmitive answer and the honesty in his eyes was all I needed. Yep....we are very pleased!
I have a '98 Chrysler Sebring Convertible and had my timing belt, water pump, rear and front cam crank seals, valve cover gaskets, o-rings, spark plugs and ignition wires replaced for ONLY $1000!! Every other place that I got a quote from wanted at least $1700 or double!!! The owner/mechanic Mr. Cole was very nice and explained everything to me in detail and why I should have it fixed. I originally only wanted the timing-belt and water pump changed but he discovered an oil leak and told me that it would be cheaper to have it done while he is already working on it to save me the labor costs down the road. He recommended also to have my throttle body cleaned and the fuel injectors cleaned. The costs for that would have been about $1100. I told him that I could only afford about $1000 max and he decided to clean my throttle body and fuel injectors for FREE. YES FREE!!! After all the work was completed he completely cleaned my engine and filled up my windshield washer fluid. I came back 2 days later to have fresh oil put into my car (I had my own oil/filter) and he even waived the $10 fee for that and did it for FREE! This is definitely THE BEST MECHANIC I have ever been to! The car runs super smooth now!!! IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR QUALITY WORK AT 1/2 PRICE THAN THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO!!! TOTALLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!! A+++++++++ Richard
I have taken my 2 vehicles to multiple national chain places and also the dealerships with a feeling of being taken advantaged of the situation. I found Cole Auto & Transmission and haven't looked back. The workmanship has been exceptional with a radiator problem in one vehicle and a clutch assembly in the other. Fast service is beyond compare. If the promise to have your vehicle back on a certain day or time... it will be ready. They will show you the bad parts and the issue the problem has caused. They will only fix what needs to be fixed and not try to find issues to fix. I have taken my 2 vehicles here 3 different times for routine checks and also maintenance. Howard is very personable and prides himself on his work, and Sarah is always fantastic to talk with and explain what work needs to be done. No work is ever completed without approval from the customer. They put the customer first. Cole Auto & Transmission is also easy on your pocket book. I got a quote from a dealership for the clutch work and it was 3 times more expensive than Coles. Also a national chain was 2 times more expensive for the same amount of work and also wanted to add additional services to the ticket. It has been a blessing to find a truly HONEST mechanic. Thank you Howard and Sarah for your help with our vehicles.
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
