We took our dog Marley in because of stomach problems that happened every week. She ended up having an infection in her colon that created lumps and major irritation. They charged us $6000 to get lumps from her colon removed. The first 14 days of recovery were horrible and throughout the entire recovery process the doctor - Kyle Kerstetter - decided to go on a vacation without telling us so to this day we still have not been able to get ahold of the doctor that actually did the surgery. The surgery that they did was not what they told us they were going to do. The other surgeon - Maxworthy -told us that our dog had cancer without actually showing us the results from the lumps. The lumps turned out to not be cancerous. Our dog now has a partially blocked colon from scar tissue and they said that we needed to have ANOTHER surgery to remove the scar tissue. We have decided not to do that because that seems counterproductive. Every day is another day of bowel problems and pain for our dog. The only other option was to put her down. We don’t actually know if the surgery was 100% needed. I do not recommend ever going here.

STAY AWAY! The other negative reviews on this page are all true. This plays is only concerned with taking your money. They sedated my young cat with very expensive drugs multiple times a day just so they could charge me. The vet I switched to told me that he responds very well to calming pheromones and there was absolutely no reason to sedate him as often as they did. Also, for the outrageous prices they charge, you think they would answer your phone calls. Nope! I would stay on hold endlessly and never got any answers about the health of my pet. I even gave up on calling and drove to their office, only to wait for over an hour and still not getting to speak to the vet. Do yourself a favor and go to a vet that actually cares about the wellbeing of your pet and isn't trying to price-gouge frantic pet owners.

Do NOT take your pets here. I was referred to Dr Aquino in ophthalmology for my 11 yr old dog who had a large ulcer on her eye that didn't resolve after 3 months of eye antibiotics. After seeing Dr. Aquino , she explained my dog needed a "simple" eye procedure that lasted 20 minutes with minimal eye discomfort afterwards. After 45 minutes I questioned why this simple procedure was taking so long. The front desk workers stated they would ask, but 20 minutes went by with no answers still. Finally the tech brought my dog to me and said she was all set to go. I refused since I noticed my dog was in respiratory distress. We were taken back to the original room. Dr. Aquino was very UNPROFESSIONAL &RUDE to me. She stated that I could have the ER doc look at her if I felt my dog wasn't acting right!Really? You think dogs should be in respiratory distress in ANY scenario! My dog almost DIED and they didn't care to make things right! No compassion. Only there for the MONEY.$1300,still a sick dog

I think this place that they call a hospital for sick animals is a disgusting money making operation that preys on the owners in their grief will spend any amount of money with you so called drs to treat a dying animal when you know there is no hope at all. All you vets work together to see how much money you can make from the grieving owners of their pets. My son was told to go there and he was in such pain and grief he would have done any thing and you people knew that. Now he has a bill in the thousands when our little guy died a few hours later. You should be ashamed. And you call yourselfs helpers. Tell that to another sucker

After reading all the negative comments I was a little apprehensive about taking my dog in for testing. All the staff I dealt with were really nice, from check in, technicians, to check out, very friendly and took time to talk with me and explain everything. As far as cost goes, you are seeing specialists and you are going to pay more, my dog is worth every penny spent on him. I have nothing negative at all to say about this facility.

This is the best veterinary clinic. I have taken my animals here for as long as i can remember and have not once gotten bad service. Dr. Kerstetter is truly the best surgeon. he has done so many surgeries on my animals and not one has gone wrong. I fully recommend going here

I was searching for a place to have my cats cancer treated. I did research and found out its important to have Radiation therapists deliver treatments. Out of all the places in Michigan this is the only place that uses veterinary technicians deliver radiation which that aren't qualified to do. I chose MSU. Make sure you do your research because they will tell you they have a technician treating patients bit they don't tell you its a veterinary technician.

We took our very ill kitten to the facility in Southfield. We were charged $1600+ for test that provided no diagnosis and no treatment plan. While I understand if these “specialist” had been successful in saving my kitten I might have a different opinion. I feel it is important to note that every aspect of customer service I came into contact with was AWFUL. They had no time to listen to my concerns and they had no problem making me feel like I was interrupting them. I very much feel like I was there to line their pockets.

I placed a call on a Sunday morning, after being seeing just the Friday before, requesting that the Dr. be contacted and consulted. (In my mind shouldn’t my $1600+ pay for that?) The woman on the phone continued to talk over me and repeat herself over and over that she would not make that call and I would have to come in and pay the emergency fee. Even the woman that took my $1600 payment on Friday was multitasking (answering the phone and directing calls).

People take sick pets to this facility and pay a lot of money to do so. I don’t feel that good customer service and empathy is too much to ask for. It was an awful experience all the way around. You should think twice before choosing to deal with this facility.

Tonight I found out that this ...

Tonight I found out that this vet hospital/vet surgery has no compassion whatsoever and no sense for making right what they did wrong.

First of all, there actually two different entities that are not related---financially. They are two teams of vets that work there and depending on who you see---MUST be the same ones next time or you will get charged other fees--which are not the same!

Secondly, They quoted me $60 for a re-bandage and then charged me $130--because the vet had to see my dog to state----yes, she needed a new bandage. Unbelievable AND misleading!! To top it off, they did not do it very well and the next day I tried to come in and get if fixed. They told me it was my fault the bandage slipped down and they wanted to charge me $60 again AND an office visit AGAIN for telling me this!!!! Thank goodness she was SO kind to let me know "go" on the office visit! I decided against the new bandage too and would do it myself.

Lastly, the surgeon said he did not think surgery was necessary at the time---plus it would be really difficult with such small bones in the foot. Really???? Why are you a small animal surgeon????

I strongly feel, after a total of three visits, 5 long phone calls, 4 hours in their waiting room....that they are driven by money, and money only. The office is top-notch and needs to be maintained!

I was referred to this place too. Can someone please recommend a REAL vet that will not charge me $600 for a simple busted toe???

I have taken several pets here...

I have taken several pets here and wouldn't come here again.

They misdiagnosed and the prices are outrageous. The doctors are incompetent.

I eventually took my sick pets to a regular vet. who helped them more than I can imagine.

Skilled Surgeon/Kind Staff

I have a 8 year old German Sheperd (Vegas) who became quite incapacitated with his knee. I brought him to MVS because I was told that Dr. Kerstetter was the best for this type of problem. He is the best! Vegas did extremely well after his first surgery (TPLO) one year ago. Unfortunately his other knee went out and Dr. Kerstetter fixed that one also.(In May) He only limps a little on rainy days. Dr. Kerstetter's assistant "Cathy" was wonderful too! These people will answer all your questions. I feel really confident my dog is in the best hands when I take him to MVS

top notch care

No one wants to go to the ER, and no one wants to take their ill pet to an emergency veterinary clinic. That said, when the need arises, you will get the best care available at this all hours clinic. The facility is clean and pleasant, and considering the number of rooms, waits should be kept to a minimum. The support staff are warm and compassionate. Our doctor was very knowledgeable, and helped us weigh our options without pushing us toward costly procedures--though each of those could have been performed on the premises. Overall the staff made a difficult situation bearable; I wouldn't think twice about going there again with an emergency.

special vet care

i have a 1 yr old siberian husky, named diesel and we took him to this place to get his eyes checked as our regular thinks he has either cataracs or is going blind. the place was very nice and clean. staff, very friendly. the vet tech asked questions and checked diesel's eyes. the doctor came in and played with diesel and checked his eyes. he explained diesel's situation - he has nuclear juvenille cataracs in both eyes. since he's so young - we elected to have him go thru the electroretinagram to see if he would be a candidate for the surgery. the doctor offered a payment plan to sign up for, since the surgery will be quite expensive. we have to go back a few more times, but i'd definately recommend them. if i lived closer, i'd take him there all the time.
