Having an open wound, increases the chances of infection. If you have a non healing wound on your lower extremity, it is essential that you act to get it healed as quickly as possible to prevent infection and further complications.

Dr. Kristen Winters has been practicing in Connecticut since 2000 following the completion of a two year surgical residency at The Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT. Now she is an attending there and is dedicated to training podiatric surgical residents and students in foot and ankle surgery.

Bunion surgery is usually performed on an out-patient basis which means patients get to go home on the same day of the surgery. Many of our patients start walking on the operative foot within a few days and can return to work within a short period of time. It is our objective to get you back on your feet as soon possible.

Ingrown Toenails
An ingrown toenail occurs when a corner of the nail grows into the flesh of the toe, causing redness and swelling, followed by pain and often infection. Ingrown toenails can occur due to improper trimming of the toenail, trauma or genetic factors.
Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Wiesner completed a three-year podiatric surgical residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital in 2015. Her training included all aspects of podiatric medicine, including reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle, diabetic limb salvage, and trauma. While at Yale, she received the Residency Excellence Award and served as chief resident during her final year.

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month! Unfortunately, melanoma is one of the deadliest forms of skin cancer and it often goes long undetected, especially when it comes to your feet.
Corns
If you experience foot or heel pain, tired feet, frequently-sprained ankles, pain while walking, corns and calluses, or even hip and knee pain, you may benefit from a biomechanical gait analysis.
Calluses
What happens, is that the bone connected to the big toe starts to drift outward pushing the big toe sideways into the other toes which can also lead to painful hammertoes, corns and calluses.
Fungus
Fungal toenails are caused by an organism that grows in and under the nail. The fungus likes to grow in warm, moist places like your shoes. Many patients pick up fungal toenail infections in the gym locker room, from a nail salon, wet shoes or from trauma. Fungus can stay in the nails for many years and can be passed from one person to another. Treatment for fungal toenails includes topical and oral medications, which used together are very effective.

Plantar Fasciitis
At our practice, PodiatryCare and the Heel Pain Center, we treat a lot of heel pain or plantar fasciitis. Many of the symptoms include pain when you first get up in the morning, burning, numbness and increased symptoms by the end of the day. The pain is usually caused by tightening of the plantar fascia ligament located on the bottom of the foot. The plantar fascia ligament supports the arch. When you're resting, the ligament contracts. As you start to walk, the ligament pulls and may tear slightly causing pain. Heel pain can also be brought on by trauma, over exertion, ill- fitting shoes or poor foot alignment.
