racists. i will tell all non-asians to stay away from this place. they are rude unless you speak one of the many asian languages. the price tags on the shelf do not match the price that rings on the register. Elaine, her english name, was the manager on duty when i was charged the wrong price. she was no help at all and argued with my senior mother and myself. i know that there are many asians that shop there; but this is one place i would love to go out of business and shut down. this location on el camino in ssf does not desearve any stars; but it would not let me leave it empty.

False Pricing Practices

I frequent this Asian market weekly because it is close to my home and the produce seems to rotate quickly. On June 01, 2011, I went into the store to purchase some produce, specifically a green jalapeno. The store offers some loose produce items and others that are pre-packaged in styrofoam trays covered with plastic wrap-bulk purchase. Only needing one jalapeno, I saw a pre-package of jalapeno peppers that was opened so I grabbed just one of the items. Listed on that opened package was the total price of $1.28 for 0.990 lbs of Jalapeno peppers, at $1.29/lbs. When I went to the cashier to pay for that item, the clerk asked to clarify what the item was in my plastic bag. She keyed in the item as directed by her supervisor of $4.99 per lbs. My one jalapeno came out to be $0.50. I asked the clerk why she had marked up the price over 300% that was noted the original package and she stated that any opened ""pre-packaged"" produce item would cost more. I asked to speak with a manager and she agreed with the mark up. I requested for any written information on where that was stated in their store policy. None of them could provide me with that information. This was false advertisement of the pricing offered in that store and nowhere was it posted that the price for a loose produce item would be marked up over 300%. I informed the store that I will never frequent this store due to unadvertised, unclarified pricing practices.

Discrimination AND Rude

OMG... I was so angry when I was stop and asked to remove my waist pouch and deposit it at the counter. My waist pouch contains all my valuables and keys and such. Do women have to deposit their handbag at the counter???? Is it guarantee that nothing will be taken from my pouch. Its ridiculous!!! I will not be shopping there ever again. ! this is discrimination. There are many other places I can shop. Its already bad enough that their prices are much higher than other Asian markets! Baskets are very dirty and the carts are in even bad condition. I DO NOT recommend this place to shop!

A manager that could use customers service skills...

I have not personally been inside the market, but a friend of mine had told me that they normally have really good seafood and that we could call for a price since we were hosting an online cooking event.(She had done it on two separate occasions) So we are sitting in her living room and called. Now the man that answered the phone was not only incredibly rude but not helpful. He went on to tell her that ""they do not allow price quotes over the phone"". She explained that she had ""previously called and received info, was it a new policy?"" He just repeated himself & she respnded by telling him how he was NOT helpful. I could not believe her treatment and decided that I would call myself since SUPPOSEDLY they have good quality products. I got the same man and politely introduced myself and explain to him that I have an event business and she had previously called for info and would like to be transferred to the seafood department. Now when I say he was rude, his reply, ""Did you just call!! I just told you that it's against our policy and we don't do that over that over the phone!"" I asked him if he was a manager? Which he responded to the affirmative.

So my advice to all my event companies, caterers and fellow food seduction followers: SHOP ELSEWHERE if you prefer excellent customer service! We called Ranch 99 & Peninsula Seafood to receive a quote over the phone. YES, they do that!

To the ""manager"" of Pacific Market: You could use a class in customer service!"" In time of a recession, every little bit counts!! I won't ever know if they have quality products, since I can't get any help over the phone. You will never get my money and anyone I can persuade to shop elsewhere! They deserve zero stars!
