I really tried to give them a chance to pay me for my goods but now I see it's just one excuse after another excuse. So I'm writing this review to warn you and others that this once good business has turned into a scam. Warn your friends. They don't pay you as agreed in their agreement form. Don't give them your goods. My guess is they will go out of business.I am reporting the to the better business bureau.

Terrible cheats. Stay away as consigners . No transparency, no accountability for your "cherished possessions". I will never get monetary satisfaction, but I can warn my fellow Portanders. Go elsewhere. Read the reviews: only people "buying" have a good experience. Those who consign are cheated.

You have to check out this store!

What a great store!! New management, friendly service, and lots and lots of great finds. When my mother passed they helped me through the process at a difficult time. They sent a truck to pick up all of her items and they were all sold quickly.

Where's my check, where's my print?

I consigned a few items here including a really nice signed print. I stopped by every now and then but never saw it on display. When I asked about it they said it probably got sold and to stop by at the end of the month for a check. There was no check. They then told me that it would be in the next months ""check run"". Again, no check. I don't know if they lost it or what, but I never got any compensation for it, just a big runaround.

They also treated me like I was a nuisance for asking about what happened to the print. Thumbs down...

Don't sell anything here!

Buy here if you want... but don't sell anything here. You will never see your money! I used to buy and sell here all the time.. but the new owners.... don't trust them.
They are not friendly to begin with... but I left several items with them in January anyway to sell. They posted them on their website.. and sold them in February. I have never gotten my money. When I called they told me they never sent out checks... you had to pick them up or send them a SASE. ( can't afford a 42 cents stamp after taking a 50% commission??) Anyhow... so I went it... the owner gave me some story about all the checks having to be reprinted and I would have to come back. When I asked why my check which should have been sitting in a file waiting for me since February had to be reprinted she got very huffy and angry with me. SHe finally agreed to a SASE which I filled out while I was there. She said the check would be in the mail the next day... its been a month.. .it hasn't arrived. I have emailed them but gotten no reply. I guess the next step is small claims court.

Good Inventory, Nice Finds

This place has a lot of really nice things. When I walked in I wasn't sure what to expect. As a 20-something woman I'm used to getting ignored in stores but was greeted then left alone to browse (which i prefer). Other consignment stores that I have been to have higher-then-new prices for their ""vintage"" items, so I was sure I wouldn't be buying anything. I saw several things I was instantly interested in, but assumed would be out of my price range. I was pleasantly surprised to find that everything I looked at was very fairly priced. The customer service was polite and friendly. I had a brief chat with the owner, who was also very friendly. Since I live just across the bridge, I will definitely be frequenting this store.

very bad customer service

Recently I visted Cherished Possessions to make an offer on an item that had been in the store for a very long time. I too, spoke to a young woman who I expect is the assistant manager. I made a very fair offer yet the assiastant manager did not have the courtesy to even call me with the consignors answer. I then sent two follow up emails and again, not a single response. I buy tons of stuff annually (to my families dismay) with price points of $50 to many thousands of dollars but I will never buy anything from this the place again. People that are consigning items at this store should reconsider as the staff is just plain rude and I , for one, will not buy anything from them again. They are doing a huge disservice to their consignors.

Everything to furnish a home - at great prices!

Cherished Possessions is great GEM of this area. Those who have discovered it come in to shop regularly because there's always something new - at a price you can afford! Furniture, home furnishings, rugs, artwork, china, glassware, jewelry, antiques, collectables - all kinds of quality stuff! You name it, you'll probably find it there.

And for those who want to make a buck from their various ""Cherished Possessions"", the consignment process is easy and you'll be paid promptly for items that sell. I saw that they've started offering a gold - silver - precious metals buying service, too. While I don't have much gold lying around, it sounds like a great way to turn old, broken jewelry into hard cash quickly.

I did buy a beautiful sterling silver bracelet there recently for the whopping sum of $6 - just don't tell my sister though, 'cause the birthday present ""wow factor"" was worth way more than the $6 bucks out of pocket! So go check out Cherished Possessions - just outside the Mill Creek area on Cottage Road - you won't be disappointed. And when you find that special something, snap it up, because it'll probably be gone by next week. Happy hunting!

Everything and More

My husband and I recently bought a vacation home in the area, and needed to fill it with furniture. Not willing to spend a fortune on new furniture we decided to go the second hand route. I fully anticipated having to hunt down hundreds of stores for everything we needed. Then I walked into Cherished Possessions. What a find! They had everything from dining and kitchen sets to living room furniture and all kinds of decor. We were able to furnish the entire house with the exception of the mattresses which we bought new. I even picked up great china and a crystal wine glass collection. All at very good prices. They even delivered the whole bundle right to our house. They had everything we needed and then some.

Best Consignment store in Southern Maine

I shop and consign at Cherished Possessions and have found the staff to be very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The new owner can be a bit brusk but is honest and straight forward. The store is arranged beautifully and items are displayed well. If they don't have what I want, I just keep going back til I find it. Prices on furniure are half of what regular furniture stores charge. Sometimes even less than that. It is good to bring your own help to move and load any large purchase but they will hold that for a few days so you can arrange a way to get your item. All in all it is well worth the trip or many trips

Low Class

I have consigned several items at cherished possessions. They sold my items for a lower price than the agreement. When I went to talk to the owners a very young girl claiming to be the assistant manager was not helpful. In the past couple of years I have seen many very nice employees leave suddenly. I wonder why? It's too bad that what once was a fun place to shop now has only high priced items and an unwelcome environment!

Lacking customer service skills

I just read the other review (low Class). It is funny because I went in there and had a very simular expirence. Customer service is an extremly important part of any business and cherished possessions definitly lacked them. Five years ago it was owned by different owners and was completly different. I see many christmas tree items there outragously priced. It is too bad you can't find bargains anymore.

Great vintage jewelry, wonderful staff!

I was visiting the local South Portland shops recently, and I came across the BEST consignment store! I wish I lived there, I would have bought more items, especially furniture. My college age son could have furnished his whole house on a college budget. Everything was clean and priced to sell, and the young lady that helped me was very friendly. I bought myself some wonderful vintage jewelry and a great lamp. I will be sure to visit there again, next time I am in town. Just leave me some of the treasures!!

Best Consignment Store!

I think Cherished Possessions is the best consignment store in Maine! It is very clean and the items are displayed well. The day I bought furniture three guys working there offered to help me carry stuff out to my car. They were very pleasant and friendly as were the the other staff who assisted me. I have been shopping and consigning there for years and feel the new owners who bought the store four years ago have made wonderful changes and the store is even better than ever! They are very particular about their consignments and go through to make sure they don't carry low value items such as stuff from Christmas Tree Shop. I love it!

NOT Purchaser Friendly

Cherished Possessions used to be a great place to fine quality items at bargain prices.....NOT ANY MORE!
Add to this the less than helpful employees when one wants to load her $500 purchase in her car and you have a doubtful pleasant experience. ADVICE.......don't break your neck to get there, but if you happen to be in the area......stop in.......YOU MIGHT GET LUCKY.......just be prepared to get that big item in your car ALONE or be prepared to listen to the negative flack!

they used to be great

Unfortunately the original owners sold to some new folks and they've brought in lots of chipped and damaged stuff, much from the Christmas Tree Shop frankly, all on consignment yet they are putting unbelievably high prices on everything. It's too bad. I used to go there on a Saturday and spend hundreds, now I can't find a thing and if I do it's priced unrealistically. I've been going there for years and there is one staff person I see each week and she still doesn't know me and asks for my drivers license when I do a check!
