I've been coming to Trudy's for years, normally for a special occasion because they have the famous Mexican Martini, and a free one on your birthday. The parking here fills up fast but if you're coming at dinner a lot of the other businesses in the lot are closed, which opens up some spots. Just be ready to park on the other side of the lot and walk a little bit. The building itself is pretty cool- it has a lounge feel, the upstairs bar is good for small groups. The outside patio still has pretty good climate control. The booths are huge! It gets pretty loud inside, and you can expect a pretty long wait for dinner Thursday- Saturday. The atmosphere is fun- perfect for parties or group dinners. I like this location better than the one near campus because you don't have quite so many drunk college students. I pretty much stick to the same order every time- Stuffed Avacado with suiza sauce, refried black beans and rice. This entree is soooo good. I'm always a little surprised at how spicy the sauce is (not to mention the complementary salsa), but nothing a Dr Pepper can't handle. I just recently tried the weekend brunch and was pleasantly surprised. I normally don't like buffets at all. The salad bar is small but stocked with good stuff, and the homemade chipotle ranch is divine. The fruit was fresh and sweet. There's queso and tortilla soup available. On the hot buffet line, I tried a little bit of everything, but since I was there later, I didn't try as many of the breakfast items- there's migas, hashbrowns, and other breakfasty items. I reallly liked the mushroom enchiladas, mini stuffed poblano peppers and mini stuffed avacados. Then there's little dessert items, including flan, tres leches, cobbler, and cookie squares. I tried the cookie squares because I was really full after everything else. The buffet was 11.95, including a drink. I normally get the stuffed avacado which is 11 alone, plus a drink. So I'd say that the buffet is a pretty awesome value for what you get.
My wife and I went to Matt's El Rancho for a date night. Our waitress was fantastic. We really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. The menu was extensive, prices were reasonable, and food was delicious. We look forward to going back soon!
My wife and I are regular saturday afternoon customers. We only discovered this restaurant a couple of months ago. I love the cheese enchiladas, they remind me of old Austin Mexican food circa 1960's, and my wife tries and, so far, likes every dish she has tasted. The frozen margaritas are well …
5. El Rey
My new favorite restaurant! I have lived in S. Austin for almost 2 decades - consistently the best of flavors and service! Scores above more expensive Tex-Mex and Mex places for me and all that I show it off to! I think I'll go tonite.
13. Taco Express
I go to Maria's Taco Xpress every Sunday when I visit Austin. The very best breakfast taco's and the Gospel Brunch with the McMercy Family Band makes all worth the trip. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food and a great band...
Taco Deli has stolen the ""Best Taco in Texas"" award from me once again. The Mojo Tilapia taco was life changing, especially with the special yoda colored hot sauce drizzled all over it. I also took a shot of the spicy habanero sauce... careful with that one. The staff was well prepared for the…

23. Casa Maria
I have been there for every daily lunch special and have not been dissappointed yet. They have the freshest best-tasting salsa in Austin. I will also say that they serve the best MIgas in Austin as well! This is the most authentic Mexican food in Austin and the service has always been great. …
24. Curra's Grill
The service is great, friendly, and attentive. The food fresh & delish. I eat there every Austin trip I take and tell everyone that's going to Austin. So far every person I've turned on to this delight (approx. 20 thus far) has shared my enthusiasm.
15 of us showed up last night, Wed, with no reservation, and we were cared for like old friends. Table was made ready quickly including super clean cloth napkins and silverware...a sign as to what is behind the kitchen door....clean.\r Our server Rodney had all our names down in 2 minutes and…
26. Guero's Taco Bar
Guero's is so yummy! The food and service are well worth the wait (which never is too long due to the efficiency of the staff). I highly recommend the queso flameado and shrimp fajitas. Everyone seems to be happy at Guero's! .... maybe it's the margaritas, I don't know...
Friends brought us to this great new spot. If you like variety, this is the place to come. 3 salsas, 2 kinds of chips (sweet potato & corn). are standard. Queso sampler (3) is yummo!\r \r I like the fact that they let you mix & match on what you order. Not super cheap - about $7-12, but q…
28. El Arroyo
This is hands down my favorite Mexican food in Austin. And it's cheap!!! The location is amazing, and the outdoor patio is so much fun, esp at happy hour. They have a nice indoor area as well, for when weather isn't as nice. (Though you can eat outside year round, as its now covered and heated…
We have been patrons for nearly 7 years now (cant believe I havent posted a review before!) and have had no complaints; JUST praises and more praises. This is really good food with no frills and very friendly service. The lunch specials are the best way to go! Their portion sizes are HUGE (somet…
I love this place! It's much nicer than most Mexican places without being expensive. It's a fantastic place for a date with a romantic atmosphere. Their margaritas and salsa are the best in town! It's hard to pick what to order here because everything I've had is really good.
I've heard about this place for months and my husband and I finally decided to hear what all the talk was about.... We pulled up to a packed parking lot and quickly learned that we weren't the only ones interested in Verde's. When you walk in, you're greeted by friendly faces and a warm ambiance. I first met Nick, the friendliest, most accommodating bartender we've ever met. He went above and beyond to satisfy our needs (we were on an hour wait, but he was right on top of things and made sure we were taken care of). Nick invited us to try one of 6 homemade infused tequilas. I tried the strawberry and raspberry combination, while my husband tried their homemade sangria...both were amazing (we can't wait to try more)!! While we were waiting, another staff member (Brandy) invited us to check out the patio. Wow!! A lounge area, and dining area (all covered), accompanied by a huge lawn where children of all ages can run free! They have soccer balls, frisbees, footballs, etc. for everyone to enjoy! We ordered the Chipotle Glazed Pork Chop and the Pollo Palomino....again, WOW! The seasoning was perfect! For ONE restaurant to have the WHOLE package is heaven to us!! We've been waiting for a place like this and folks...it's HERE!!! With a lot of restaurants you have good food, but not so good service, or a not so good atmosphere...but, they've got it all!! Well done Verde's and THANK YOU!!! We'll definitely be back! Mr. and Mrs. Sminsky Austin, TX
I just ate at the location on rundberg and i was skeptical on the fact that it used to be the infamous Pollo Regio. But in my opinion, Pollo Rico blows me away. The chicken is by far the greatest thing i have ever eatan, and if i may also say that it is better than the Pollo Regio before it. The chicken with the sauces, green one especially, are absolutely mouth watering. This new and improved taste got me thinking if there were still pollo regios in austin. I found one off of Ohlen and decided to compare it. Yes i am a serious critique and find it a great passtime. Anyways, i bought a chicken from Regio and another from Rico, and decided hands down that Pollo Rico has the better chicken. The great taste of their juicy chicken covered in a certain sause, which is called "Achote," i believe, is great. Upon further inspection i have figured out that the chicken is absolutely grease-free. Despite the fact what others may say, the "grease looking color" on the packaging is simply the "Achote" along with juiciness of the chicken itself. Not only is this food great tasting, it isnt half-bad for you either.
I visited Manuel's on Jollyville for ths first time this past weekend with some friends. They assured me that it was one of the best Mexican food restaurants in Austin. I can't say that I was disappointed. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table as it was quite busy on this SAturday night. We kept ourselves busy with cocktails and chips at the bar. Our top shelf Margaritas were excellent without being too sweet and a Mojito was ordered that was excellent. Once we sat down, the waiter was pleasant and attentive. We quickly ordered some guacamole which was fresh and delicious. I ordered the chicken fajitas and my friends ordered chicken mole and a salad. The fajitas were really good, but I think the mole was the highlight. It was rich and spicy without being too heavy. I highly recommend this place, just expect to wait on a weekend night. Enjoy
I think this may be the first or second 5 star rating I've given out so far and it's well deserved. With so much Tex-Mex in town, El Chile has managed to set themselves apart and still stay true to Tex-Mex. I don't know how they do it, but everything I order from there is phenomenal. It's usually pretty hard to get in on weekends, especially in the evenings. I would suggest mid-day lunchtime on the weekends or dinner on the weekdays. The service is usually pretty good and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. It's usually very loud so be prepared to shout at times during dinner. Parking can be scarce at peak times, so that's another reason to go during off-peak times. I could fill up on their free chips and two types of salsa alone, but I would highly recommend the chile rellenos and tres leches cake!
I haven't been to Curra's in years even though I had always liked it before. I decided to take a new friend there for dinner tonight and it was just as good as I remembered. I ordered the Salmon with Nopalitos in a cream sauce and it was super delicious! The salsa had a really nice homemade flavor too. The waiter was really great! We stayed there chatting and eating for almost 3 hours and he always made sure our waters were full. He didn't bring our check until we asked for it so he allowed us to take as long as we wanted without feeling rushed. They have a really large dining area inside but they also have a small outdoor patio if you want to eat outside.
Wow! I thought I might be the first person to review this place, but I'm so pleasantly surprised to see how many other people enjoy Aranda's. I was introduced to the place by an ex about 9 years ago and love it! When I'm in the mood to fill up on tasty cheap food in a sit-down restaurant, this is one of my choices. You can get a torta or gigantor burrito for around $3 with unlimited chips and homemade salsa. I love going there with a friend and paying around $8-$9 for lunch, tax, and tip for TWO. Now, for that much money, you can't use words like ambiance, vibe, cuisine, etc., but you can use words like cheap, fast, and good.
After reading the one bad review I was not certain what to think, but decided to see for myself. We were a party of four, they were busy and took a call ahead for the seating list. We arrived and were seated right away by the fireplace. The service we received was outstanding, friendly and very knowledgable about the menu. Two of us had the Pollo Palomino and two had the porkchop. Both were OUTSTANDING! The guys had the porkchops and both stated it was the best they had ever eaten anywhere. Us girls felt the chicken was equally good. The atmosphere was also very pleasant. You don't want to skip over this one!!!
Go for the breakfast tacos!!! The homemade salsa is fantastic, and the tacos are terrific. We love getting these on the weekends, and we live in the Wells Branch area, so it's the perfect location for a Saturday morning grab and go. I haven't been since they remodeled to include the Polvos, but I did visit for dinner one time, and the ambience was lacking in my opinion. They do have a full bar, but I didn't try it out. The food I got was pretty good, but nothing I feel the need to go back for. It's not tex mex, but a south american cuisine.
Was at the hotel next door for a board meeting. There were about 6 of us who arrived the evening before so we went together to Pappcitas. The place was really busy but our wait was fairly short. The staff were great, the menu had lots of choices & our waitress was great telling us details when we asked questions. The "Adult Beverages" were made by an experienced bartender. When we got our food it was very good and obviously not been left sitting, the meats were still sizzling. We agreed we would go back when we go to our next meeting.
