Overall

My wife's 1999 Mitsubishi Galant GTZ had a severe oil leak coming from the camshaft and crankshaft seal. I called US 1 Auto Repair for an estimate to replace both of the seals and the timing belt because it was oil soaked and the belt had to come off anyway to replace the seals. I was told $400.00 labor, I supplied the belt and both seals.
On 4/6/18 we dropped off the car to get repaired. Later that afternoon my wife rode her bike to the shop and paid the bill and picked up the keys and at that time the mechanic told her that the car had some sort of noise and he could not find where it was coming from. ( this car did not have a noise when we dropped it off )
When I got off work we went to pick up the car, the shop was closed and nobody was there. When we got home I checked out this noise my wife told me about, I could not believe it. The mechanic told my wife he didn't know where it was coming from? It was coming from the same area he installed the belt and seals.
My wife had to be at work at 6am the next day Saturday. I spoke to the mechanic and expressed my concerns about this awful noise and he told me it needed a water pump, the new belt was stressing out the bearing and the pump needed replaced. I have a background in auto repair and this noise had nothing to do with the pump and by the time my wife got home from work the engine sounded like it was coming apart.
Monday 4/9/18 my wife took the car back to the shop the mechanic walked out to the parking lot and looked at the engine and said "It needs a water pump" never bothered to take the timing cover off and looked to make sure, did not even bother to put it on a lift to verify where all the oil was coming from because by now, 3 days later not only is the noise 10 times louder that severe oil leak is back and the mechanics answer to that was it needed valve cover gaskets. Well those gaskets were replaced 10,000 miles ago, so that was a wrong answer as was the water pump diagnosis. My wife had the feeling they were just trying to push her out of there and told her to come back when she wanted that work done.
We were very upset, I knew there was a major problem with this car. The next day I took it to another shop this is what they found. The timing belt was getting ready to jump time and fall off because after they replaced the seals they did not install the belt tensioner correctly, not only that...the oil leak, they destroyed both of the seals installing them. there were flat spots all around them and to try and seal them they satsurated the seals with silicone, it was everywhere inside the timing cover, what a mess. I could not believe what I was looking at. Of course I took pictures. I had the seals replaced, the tensioner put back on right as well as the timing belt. If I did not take this car to the shop that day to get it inspected that timing belt would have came off and destroyed the engine, no doubt.
I went back to US 1 Auto Repair to talk to the Owner, Dick. All he wanted to do was argue with me he would not try to be reasonable and did not even want to see the pictures or invoices I had. I went back on 3 different occasions and he refused to refund my money. This was by far the worse experience I ever had with any retail business. Four hundred dollars is a lot of money to us, we both work hard it set us back to pay for the same repair twice. Dick did not want to hear any of that the only thing he was interested in was keeping our money in a situation were he knew his mechanic was negligent in repairing our car properly.
My advice to everyone, please don't put yourself in the same spot I was in, Stay far away from US 1 Auto Repair. I have never, ever got on a computer and wrote a review in my life I have better things to do, But this really needed to be put out there.
