Vaccination
One of the best things you can do for your pet is to keep him or her healthy. The easiest and least expensive way to do that is by bringing your pet in for regular exams and vaccinations to help prevent disease before it starts. For dogs we offer the canine influenza vaccine, kennel cough vaccine, combination distemper/adenovirus/parainfluenza/parvovirus/leptospirosis vaccine, lyme vaccine, and rabies vaccine. For cats we offer the leukemia vaccine, combination rhinotracheitis/calici/panleukonpenia vaccine (typically called distemper), and the rabies vaccine.
Comprehensive Examination
Any type of office visit, whether it be for a sick pet or a healthy puppy, includes a complete physical examination by one of our doctors. The examination includes evaluating the health of a pet's eyes, ears, dental health, lymph nodes, lungs, heart, abdomen, skin and hair coat, and limbs.

Illness Treatment

Parasites Treatment and Control
We recommend that each cat and dog (and ESPECIALLY each puppy and kitten) have their stool examined for intestinal parasites at least once a year. Not only can such parasites affect a pet's health, but many are considered zoonotic, which means they are capable of being passed to humans or other species. Houses that have small children or any immuno-compromised individuals should be especially vigilant in having their pets' stool checked regularly. Deworming medicine is great, but not all dewormers kill all types of intestinal parasites. For that reason it is important to check the stool for all types of parasites, so we can ensure the proper medication is prescribed. We also recommend heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives for all cats and dogs regardless of their lifestyles and carry a variety of options.
Pain Management
We are very concerned about pain management and control in cats and dogs. If we determine a pet to be in pain the doctor will prescribe medications to help make them more comfortable. We do stock a variety of medications that are either anti-inflammatory in nature or more strictly for pain control.
Vomiting Treatment
Vomiting can be caused by a number of different things. Depending on the history and physical examination a number of treatments or diagnostics tests may be recommended by the doctor such as blood work, x-rays, etc.
Diarrhea Treatment
Depending on the physical examination and symptoms, treatment for diarrhea could be as simple as feeding a bland diet for a few days or as complicated as performing x-rays to rule out foreign body ingestion. We have the capability to perform blood work to ensure a patient is not dehydrated, taking x-rays, prescribing medication or prescription food to control symptoms, administering fluid therapy when needed, to surgery for patients who may have eaten something that is causing a severe issue.
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
Allergies are probably one of the most common "issues" we deal with in veterinary medicine. As humans experience allergy symptoms in the form of upper respiratory issues (stuffy/runny nose, itchy eyes, etc.), cats and dogs experience allergy symptoms in the form of skin issues (itchy/red/flaky skin, dirty/itchy ears, etc.). There are 2 main types of allergies we treat: food allergies (where the problem is usually an insensitivity to a particular protein source like beef or chicken), and environmental allergies (where the problem is caused by dust/pollen/molds, etc.). Allergies can never be cured, so the goal is to focus on managing the symptoms. If the doctor suspects a food allergy they may recommend a prescription diet food trial. If they suspect environmental allergies they may recommend testing to help determine what the pet is allergic to. We have a variety of treatment options available and would recommend a specific protocol depending on each patient's unique situation.
Intestinal Foreign Object Removal
Some dogs and cats tend to eat silly things that they should not. When such an object becomes stuck in the gastrointestinal tract it can become and emergency situation. Before proceeding to surgery, the doctor would want to perform x-rays and blood work to aid in the diagnosis of a foreign object obstruction.

If a patient has exhibited signs of discomfort with their ears, the doctor typically takes a sample from each ear and will prepare a slide for microscopic examination. We can then see what is "growing" in the ears: yeast, bacteria, etc., and can prescribe an appropriate treatment.

Arthritis Treatment
We carry a variety of medications and supplements that help manage arthritis including: Dasuquin, Adequan, Lubrisyn, and more.
Obesity Treatment
If the doctor feels that a pet is overweight they will typically recommend cutting back on the current diet, or switching to a less caloric diet along with increasing exercise activity. We frequently will calculate exactly how many calories a pet requires in a day, and then can let an owner know exactly how much food they should be feeding their pet. Obesity puts pets at risk for developing arthritis, diabetes, and other issues. In severe cases the doctor may also recommend a prescription diet that is made specifically for weight loss.
Diabetes Treatment
Unfortunately diabetes is another common ailment for both dogs and cats. Signs may typically include weight loss, increased thirst, and increased frequency and amount of urination. Diagnosing diabetes usually involves performing some blood work and possibly a urinalysis, either in-house or sent out to the laboratory. If a patient is diagnosed with diabetes we typically recommend a prescription diet change, close monitoring of the blood glucose levels, and starting daily insulin injections when needed.
Thyroid Disease Treatment
Thyroid disease is fairly common in veterinary medicine. Typically dogs may have an under active thyroid which could result in weight gain, poor hair coat, etc.; and cats may have an over active thyroid which could result in weight loss, excessive vocalization, etc. We have in-house laboratory capabilities as well as utilize an outside laboratory to help diagnose thyroid issues prior to treatment. We do stock medications to treat both cats and dogs who may need supplementation. Monitoring blood work is required periodically to ensure proper dosage and treatment of the condition.
Epilepsy Treatment
Unfortunately we do see many pets that have problems with seizures. After ruling out any congenital issues and depending on the severity and frequency of seizures, medications may be prescribed to help control seizure activity. Once diagnosed, the patient will be required to have monitoring blood work performed periodically to ensure proper dosing of seizure medication.
Knee Problems Treatment
Depending on the symptoms and the results of a physical exam, the doctor may recommend x-rays for a pet with a knee issue. Some of the most common knee issues we see would be luxating patellas, and cruciate ligament disease. We do have in-house x-rays if the doctor feels a radiology study is warranted. If the doctor recommends a consultation with an orthopedic specialist we can also facilitate arranging an appointment with a board certified surgeon that travels to us on an as needed basis.
Heart Disease Treatment
We stock many cardiac medications, have digital in-house x-ray, and have a board certified cardiologist that travels to us on a bi-weekly basis to perform ultrasounds when needed.
Kidney Disease Treatment
Kidney disease can affect both cats and dogs and typically occurs in older patients. Diagnosis is typically done with blood work. Kidney disease can be managed with medications, prescription diets, and in severe cases fluid therapy. Typically periodic monitoring of blood work is required to assess management of the disease.

Veterinary Surgery
Our experienced veterinarians provide many surgical services at our clinic, ranging from routine to advanced procedures. Because we want to ensure that our patients receive the best possible outcome, we occasionally recommend specialists (board-certified surgeons). We do have the option of performing such procedures here by having a board certified surgeon travel to us, but in emergency situations when an issue is time-sensitive we may recommend a referral.
Spaying and Neutering
We recommend spaying and neutering to all cats and dogs. Not only does it help to reduce their incidence of certain cancers down the road, but it also helps to control the unwanted pet population and reduces the risk of them running off for romantic rendezvous and getting lost!
Veterinary Euthanasia
We do offer humane euthanasia for pets whose quality of life is declining. Euthanasia is always at the discretion of the veterinarian, and if we have not examined the pet recently an examination will be required before proceeding to ensure that both the doctor and the owner agree that euthanasia is warranted. An owner can either be present or not during the procedure, which typically includes placing an intravenous catheter so the doctor can administer the medication directly into the bloodstream to make the process as humane as possible. The medication we use is a very strong anesthetic, so pets seem to "fall asleep" as the doctor proceeds with the injection. We also work with a company that offers a variety of options including cremation, burial, or an owner can always elect to bring their pet home with them.

Laboratory Services
We have a full in-house laboratory equipped with a chemistry analyzer and complete blood count machine. This allows us to look for infection, hydration status, anemia, abnormalities in blood glucose levels and organ function indicators, etc. We are also capable of performing in-house urinalyses as well. We do also work with an outside laboratory that allows us to submit for more specific and complicated types of testing.
X-Ray
We are equipped with in-house digital radiology. Typically we charge by the radiology study, not by the amount of x-rays taken. The doctor will review the images here, and then we also electronically submit our x-rays to be reviewed by a board-certified radiologist as well.
Dental Radiology
We are equipped with in-house digital dental x-rays to evaluate tooth health above and below the gum line.
Microchipping
Microchipping is a safe and easy way to greatly increase the chances of your pet being reunited with you, should they ever get lost or separated from you. Contrary to popular belief, a microchip is not a GPS tracking device. If a lost pet is located and brought to a shelter or clinic they will be scanned for a chip. If a chip is found it will display an unique identification number that corresponds to a pet's identity and contact information. A study from the American Veterinary Medical Association found that about 22% of non-microchipped dogs who enter shelters are reunited with their families, while 53% of microchipped dogs were returned home. Non-microchipped cats were reunited with their families only 2% of the time, while over 38% of microchipped cats were returned home. Those numbers make a very good case for microchipping your beloved furry friends.
