I met ACP thru a friend and take all my dogs to them. The staff is friendly and they make you feel like you're their favorite client. they even came to my house once when my car wasn't running. They even helped me through one of the toughest decisions I had to make when I had lay my best friend to rest. The lead vet tried to save him but he was too sick. After he was gone she actually wept with me. Ill never forget her for her compassion at that tragic moment in my life. As a result of my treatment my mother now takes her pets there too. I have used 5 different vets in delaware and this one was the total package
I used Companion Animal Practice for the first time today and I was so happy I did. Dr. Dohmen is amazing, kind and quckly bonded with my cat, which is something that NO vet has ever done before. If anyone is looking for a vet please go to Companion Animal Practice in Smyrna, De. She and her staff will give your animal the love it deserves.
If you use this vet make sure that you give her a list of the supplies she will need to bring with her to do her job. Truly unprofessional and false advertising. Not a true mobile vet. I scheduled Dr, Dohman for a farm call to diagnose a growth on my horse's back leg. Upon arriving at my farm and looking at the horse's leg Dr. Dohman informs me that she does not have a biopsy kit with her and will have to schedule another appt. Shouldn't a mobile vet have ample supplies in their vehicle? $250 later, for blood work and some shots, we made another appt for her to come back and take a biopsy. I have had to reschedule this appointment twice as I work a very demanding fulltime job that prohibited me from leaving work on those days. However, I always gave at least 24hr notice, if not more. I received a call from her office manager stating that I will need to pre-pay for the next farm call due to me rescheduling! In my opinion I shouldn't have to pay for a farm call at all since this vet doesn't keep basic supplies in her vehicle. Truly disgusted with this service.
My cat was very lethargic so being local I decided to bring my cat the Companion Animal Hospital in Smyrna Delaware. After a quick 10 minute evaluation and blood test I was told my cat had a blocked urinary tract and it would cost the sum of at least $1,000 dollars and that was an estimate. being that I am no doctor I decided to let them proceed with the operation. On the way back to the examination room my cat urinated so the doctor says "oh I guess it was not a urinary blockage" What bothers me is that had he not urinated right there on the spot she would have perfomed needless surgery on my cat bast on a hunch. Needless to say she said there was noting she could find wrong with the cat to the tune of $500.00 so I paid it and went on my way.
Well a month later my cat developed a small wound on his back so I decided to make another appt to see Dr Laurie Dohmen at Companion Animal Hospital. After another one of her quick 5 minute exams she came to the conclusion that my cat needed surgery again and at least 2 weeks hospital stay and showed me an estimate for $1,500.00 I then inquired as to it being a minor cut and could I just have some anti-biotics for the time being. I was told I could take it or leave it with the estimate but she would not give anti-biotics to help my cat.
I told her I was on a limited budget and would like to think about it and would like a copy of the estimate to review and think about. I was promptly to NO and that if they gave me an estimate I would just go to another vet and if that vet did not agree with her estimate it would make her practice look bad. I ws then promptly told that I should consider taking my animals to another vet from now on by their office manage Scott.
I then asked for a copy of my cats records and was told they would only fax them if requested to another vet and even then there would be a $38.00 fee!!! But they would in no way release the record to me personally.
Its my opinion that Companion Animal Practice and Dr Laurie Dohman are incompetinent at diagnosing problems and have poor customer service and I would think twice before taking my pet there.
