As a Skagway year-round resident, allow me to extend my apologies for your bad encounter at the Post Office. If it makes you feel better, most of us locals are treated just as you were on your visit. Hopefully you found that everyone else in Skagway was pleasant and helpful, as this has been our little town's reputation for some time. Next time you visit, hopefully the Post Office situation will be resolved.

I am in awe of the USPS. I cannot imagine the magnitude of the job or the great service for $.44. I visited the Skagway USPS to drop off my first post cards home. Was the only thing my daughter asked for. On reflection, it pleases me to know that the only rude person I met on my 7 day tour of Alaska was one rude post office worker on Friday September 26th at 4:50 pm. She knows who she is! because she greeted me with a screeching statement that the doors were closing in 5 minutes!!! What she does not realize is her facility is the only one my daughter has yet to receive her postcards from. Barring the fact that she clearly does not consider herself an ambassador of good will in the US, she also cannot get the mail out. So on that fine note I will bid her good day and remind her that we tourists are your livelihood in Skagway.
