I went to BJ's Automotive for a Winter checkup because I will be taking my kids up to the mountains for a ski trip. I had a feeling that my brakes might have an issue because they felt a little odd. Also, the day before I took my car in my engine light came on. I found out on the web that with my 2001 Dodge Durango I could turn my ignition switch on 3 times and it would give me the error code that my engine warning light was triggering on. I thought that this would be a good test of if a shop was being honest. I just moved into Simi Valley and didn't know an honest repair shop. The error code was P0442. A minor emissions type problem. After bringing my car into the shop they did a full inspection for $79 which included an oil change and wiperblade replacement. They also saw my engine light on and diagnosed it correctly and notified me of the problem being a small emissions leak. I was told that this should be corrected because if there were a more significant engine problem I would not become aware of it because it was already triggered. Right on!!! But, what was significant was that I was told that more important, my break pads were low - 35% on one side and 15% on the other - and that this was more important to take care of (I know they meant if I was having to make a financial decision-it's a week before Christmas). I hesitated because this is the first time I was at this shop. The cost was going to be about $250-$350 because my rotors were going to have to be turned or maybe replaced. So I initially declined knowing that I can replace breaks and rotors myself..so I called Auto Zone. Ceramic Brakes ( I don't buy semi-metallic) were going to run me $70. Rotors were going to cost $60 each and they were not going to be OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture) - I think the rotors were coming from China. Also, I was going to have to do the work, and though I know how to work on cars, I've been out of it for quite a while. So I immediately called BJ Automotive back and asked them to fix my brakes. They started work right away. I must say that I was also concerned about my ABS (Anti-lock Brake System). I had an experience where I slammed on the brakes and it just seemed WAY too long to slow down, but I thought that maybe it was just me because ABS can kind of feel that way. Turns out, they found an issue with one of the calipers being really dirty and clogged and instead of saying that I needed to replace them that they would try and clean them if possible. They completed the job successfully, but recommended that I come back within 1000 miles to make sure that my brakes were still behaving properly. I have been driving for 26 years.... wow I'm old :o) ... I am an AAA member and this truly was the BEST experience I've had with anyone repairing my vehicle ---- HANDS DOWN!! I will and have already recommended them to people I know. I will be going back to BJ's Automotive. BJ's Automotive..... From me, and my kids....Thank you!!! I've been a client of Rebel Engine for almost 25 years now. The service is incredible, reliable, and Rick is honest and straightforward. Mechanics like Doug and Rick come around once in a lifetime - if you're lucky - and I feel I truly am! I have referred many people to Rebel with complete confidence. I've even compared other service centers with Rebel Engine. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had "recommendations" for engine work when I've taken my care in for tires somewhere else, but what I enjoy is asking for a printout of those recommendations and then taking them to Rick. He is always amazed at what other people try to sell me. Is it because I'm a woman? I don't know, but in all the years I've done business with Rebel, they've treated me with respect, and taught me about my cars and the service they need. I'm looking to purchase a new car for the first time in 15 years. I credit the longevity of my cars to Rebel and the outstanding service they provide, and my new purchase will be with Rick's advice and recommendation. It's just plain hard to find people you can trust as much as I trust Rick and Rebel Engine. I highly recommend Rebel for all you car repair needs.
I have known Rick at Rebel Engine for 15 years. Since I was 8 years old, maybe 9. The point of it all is that, as his stepdaughter, you may think this review will be biased. After looking at other reviews on this page though, that should prove to be not the case. Rick gives the same level of care and dedication to his family as he does to his customers at work. When you walk in to Rebel Engine, you will always be greeted with a smile, hello, and how can I help you. Rick is incredibly knowledgeable, incredibly fair, and incredibly honest. You have to admire a mechanic who will tell you that you do not need to have your fluids changed because he already did it and it isn't time yet. Or a mechanic who will drive 3 hours (one way!) to your broken down car to call AAA because they won't tow without seeing proof of a AAA membership. Maybe it's a stereotype, but I haven't met many other mechanics (or working people in general) who will turn down work (and therefore money). If you are even thinking of giving Rick a chance to work on your car, take it. If you don't like something about it, he'll tell you a better shop to go to. What do you have to lose?
If you are looking for an honest, professional, affordable automobile mechanic, just go to Rebel Engine and meet with the Owner, Rick James. I sold my home in the San Fernando Valley, purchased a manufactured home in a mobile home park in Simi Valley, decided to find a mechanic close to my new home so, I went to the office in my park.........gladly they referred me to Rebel Engine, which, by the way, was walking distance from my home. Naturally, I drove over after making the initial appointment. To his credit, Rick was warm, friendly, so knowledgable that we hit it off right away. It is always a pleasure to have my 1990 Toyota Celica serviced. I have referred another person in my park and she has taken both of her vehicles to Rick.............................she would not go anywhere else. Recently, I referred my son and it is my hope that he will continue taking his Honda to Rick. I am his mother and know what is best for him. Do you want the Best??????????????????? Go to Rebel Engine and meet Rick James. I did. Thank You, Rick Sheral Kaplan
Rick at Rebel Engine is an honest mechanic. And, it is obvious to me that he takes great pride in his workmanship and how he runs his business; he always stands behind his work. I have been a customer for 10 years, and have always been very happy with his work. He has been working on cars for 35 years. When I bring my car in because it is making some noise, or for a scheduled service, I can be assured that he will additionally warn me if he sees anything else that may be wearing or that will need work soon. He will take care of your car and not try to gouge you. Isn't that the kind of mechanic anyone would want to have? He truly enjoys his customers and people come in just to talk to him even when they don't need him to work on their car.
Most people think it's hard to find an honest mechanic. I don't think that's true. Rick is honest, but I really think it's hard to find COMPETENT mechanics! Rick knows what he's doing--that's what's exceptional. Despite the fact that he's really good at what he does, he doesn't gold-plate the price. In other words, he's reasonably priced. Also, I believe he does not recommend unnecessary repairs.
My car's engine had a blown head. I needed someone who was trustworthy, reliable and affordable. As I shopped around, I came across Rebel Engine in Simi Valley, CA. I give it a shot since the owner Rick seemed so educated with his skills. My car came back running smooth and exceptional. Rick as earned my business going further and I recommend you see him too. You will not be diappointed!
Face to face service was good. However, the mechanic left his/her drink in the car and trying to get to my service tech on the phone took 2 calls; the 1st call forwarded me 2-3 times and I ended up with an answering machine. The service tech was fine once I found him.
IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A PROFESIONAL AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR FACILITY THAN THIS IS THE PLACE. THEY FIXED MY CAR RIGHT THE FIRST TIME AND DID IT FOR A GREAT PRICE.
The best place to start your parts search, usually where you end up finding the part when you've been all over.
