By Derek Jordan Herald/Review SIERRA VISTA A local car dealership and a mortgage company were selected by the Greater Sierra Vista Area Chamber of Commerce as their businesses of the year Wednesday. Its phenomenal, said Joe Stroud, whose business, E.F. Edwards Financial, was named Small Business of the Year at the annual installation reception and awards ceremony. Stroud said the award, which is voted on by the public after nominees are narrowed down to three by the chamber, is the result of a dedicated, competent staff and a heavy focus on customer service leading the way. We really do try to take care of our customers, he said. Apart from customer satisfaction, the chamber also looked at a business efforts within the community when selecting nominees, said Wallace Ricks, outgoing chairman of the chambers board of directors. Community involvement, good citizenship, a positive view of the organization in the community, we look at all of those things, Ricks said. E.F. Edwards prefers to focus its community support efforts on education and young people, Stroud said, including funding scholarships for business majors at Cochise College and sponsoring a number of local youth sports teams. This community supports us, so we have a responsibility to support the community as well, said Strouds wife, Phyllis Stroud.
