The Sheboygan County Jail is responsible for the care and custody of pre-trail detainees and convicted individuals. It is operated by the Sheboygan County Sheriffs Department, which is a full-service law enforcement agency that protects life and property and enforces laws. The Sheboygan County Sheriffs Department undertakes various criminal cases and works with state, local and federal agencies in the exchange of information to the public. The office operates a K-9 team that performs duties related to building and vehicle searches, tracking criminals and crowd control. It operates a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, which specializes in bomb disposal and hostage and barricaded gunman situations. The Sheboygan County Jail has been operational since 1982 and is located in Sheboygan, Wis.
