I'm not in the habit of giving away fishing secrets but the people who run this camp have treated me so well, I'd feel selfish if I didn't share.
First of all, while all Maine lakes are beautiful, South Branch Lake is exceptionally lovely. It's a gorgeous lake, dotted with islands, about 3 miles long and a mile wide, populated with loon, osprey, eagles, beavers, and the occasional moose. The sunsets here are gorgeous.
Secondly, I go here to fish and the lake is full of big smallmouth. The whole lake is full of classic smallmouth habitat and the big smallies can be found throughout the lake.
Thirdly, the camp itself is beautiful. Rustic cabins on a peninsula with the main lodge atop a hill looking over the camp. It's a pretty place.
Lastly, the services at the camp are first-rate. I've been going to South Branch for decades, through the tenures of 4 different owners. I've enjoyed each owner, the current one has been there the longest (15 years) and he's committed to, and proud of, the camp, continuously refining and improving.
The food's great and the staff at South Branch Lake Camps is accommodating in a way that's friendly and relaxed. My requests never seem like an imposition.
Great fishing in a beautiful wilderness setting at a lovely camp with excellent service. That's why I keep going back to South Branch Lake Camps!
