I actually love this place, even though I am a lighthning rod for bad service here. My friends swear it never happens when I'm not there, so I'm going to give them the 5 stars anyway, but food and drinks seem to take FOREVER whenever I am part of the group. Anyway, I think the food is really creative and its always good. Gotta love that. One of these days I will come for the trapeze show.

On July 18, 2010, at approximately 3 p.m. a party of five (5) and I dine at ""The Pink Door"" restaurant at 1919 Post Aly, Seattle, Washington 98101. We were met by the host who advised my party that we could sit where we wanted to. The individual who approached our table was polite and took our order for drinks. The waiter for our table was harsh and rude. The first thing came out of his mouth was ""We don't server Cuban food."" At that moment everything went down hill. The attitude toward Hispanic and Blacks was uncalled for. The waiter's dislike toward Cuban Americans and Black Americans was very obvious.

If you like Italian food (who doesn't, really?), the Pink Door is the place to get the ""Seattle Insider"" experience with your side of Italian. Not flashy -- the tables and decor is simple, inexpensive, ""approachable."" The first time I came to this restaurant, I was a bit nervous about opening the unmarked door to the restaurant -- obviously a hide-a-way that you need to be a local to know about -- and in opening the door, you are a part of the ""private club!"" Then, surprise -- a trapeze artist was swinging above the diners -- quirky, unusual, and a bit hard to take your eyes off of. Then, the bar -- whether they are showing ""Casablanca"" while you dine or have invited in a 3 piece band playing fun and spunky music, there is always a lot to see, hear and taste at the Pink Door. The ""Everything Green"" salad on the menu also reminds one that you are in Seattle -- the emerald city. A baby greens and butter lettuce salad peppered with peas, asparagus, avacado, pistacios... they load on everything that they can think of that is, well, GREEN. Quirky, unique, healthy, and surprisingly delicious! Finally, the view of Elliot Bay while enjoying a summer day -- quintessentially Seattle. Their space in the Pike Place Market make it both accessible and easy to enjoy the rest of what Seattle has to offer, AFTER dinner. One note to singles -- this is not a true ""singles haunt,"" so you have to come here with a ""wing man or wing woman,"" HOWEVER, the proximity of the tables in the louge and the general ""vacation attitude of openness"" that seems to be inspired in the patrons there -- people come here with their best pal to have fun, and it shows -- makes conversation with strangers actually possible here -- an unusual thing to find in Seattle! So, have your dinner in the lounge, have a cocktail, make friends and enjoy some of the unique tastes of the Pink Door!

5 of us gals had lunch there last summer. the food was good, the service was ...ok...at best. however, when the bill came, we split it up ourselves, paid mostly in cash, as that usually makes it easier...you would think. when the waitress came back, she said we were short $30 some dollars. when we broke it down, went over how much each of us put in...it didn't make sense. the waitress then admitted, she had 'made change' for a different table with 'our cash' before she took it up. when we got the manager, he said ""i don't have all day to figure this out, you owe $30 cough it up, or i'm calling security"" when we tried to explain, he refused to listen threatened to call the police, and the poor waitress just looked scared, probably for her job,,,maybe her safety. i don't blame her for not speaking up in front of him. needless to say, we paid the extra $30 and were told not to come back ever.

My cousin and he's family were in town from Chicago, and we decided to give the Pink Door a try. The Service was top notched, my wife has special dietary needs and they were able to accommodate it without any issues. We asked for a recommendation on wine and they hit it right on the spot. The food was amazing and the band topped the night off. It will be a night to remember.

We celebrated my daughters 21st birthday and I think we will all remember this fun night. The waiter was excellent! He was an good listener, friendly without being annoying, and he had excellent timing, bringing us food just when we wanted it. And the food!!!! WOW. It was delicious, especially my steak. We all loved the Caesar salad, fresh and crisp leaves. We shared dessert and it melted in our mouth. The trapese performance was fun, and short enough so it didn't interrupt dining. I would highly recommend this place!

The owner of this fine establishment told me I was drunk over the phone while I was asking for direction to her restaurant when I was completely sober. when I confronted her she threaten to have me removed by her cooks. I didn't eat there and would NEVER go back.

One beautiful, sunny Seattle Saturday night, my girlfriends and I decided to eat at the Pink Door. We had 5:00 reservations and showed early so that we could enjoy a wine tasting across the street. We let the Pink Door know we were there, so it was quite a shock to us when we arrived a little late for our 5:00 reservation and were met with such disdain and venom from the owner (the restaurant was empty, by the way)
The owner was so rude, she pushed her large bossom in my face and demanded to know where all the members of our party were as she slammed her fists on the table. They were in the bathroom, but this was not good enough. Despite her nasty behavior, we proceeded to order our meals, mine a $23.00 piece of bland Halibut that I didn't get to finish. In fact, we were treated so poorly that two members of our party didn't even get to order. When we asked why, we were asked to leave - but yet still had to pay.
Please note that we are all respected professionals in our 30s - dentists, lawyers, and teachers.... we were not loud, we were not dressed in jeans or cut-offs, we were merely late for a reservation (and we LET THEM KNOW WE WOULD BE LATE BEFOREHAND). Our reservation was at 5:00 - not prime time eating hours.
I find it discouraging that in a time when many locals and tourists alike find it difficult and expensive to eat out, and when people work so hard for their money so that they can afford to pay $23.00/plate, that they get treated so poorly they don't get to enjoy their meal, can't finish it and are made to feel embarrassed and disgraced.
I will NEVER step foot in the Pink Door again and I won't stop until I spread the word to everyone. If only the food had been tasty, I could write at least something positive. Even the decor on the deck in putrid. I recommend Maximillians over this place any day!

Much like Quinn's on Capitol Hill, this is the kind of place that never has to worry about empty tables. However because of this they tend to get ahead of themselves and forget that service is what makes or breaks a restaurant. It may not happen overnight, but it will eventually catch up.
I think all establishments of this variety should be doubly sure they have a hostess and/or receptionist that can maintain pleasant interaction with customers without taking on heirs of superiority or indifference.
Example: When calling about reservations, even if it seems ludicrous to you please don't repeat back to me ""You want reservations for Friday? THIS Friday? Are you serious?""
Example2: If i have to wait for a table, so should the next person. When being seated after a fifteen minute wait despite reservations, the waitress tells me ""you have less than two hours to get it done so you better get to it"". I'm kind of thinking ""Wow, wtf. What if I want to stay longer? What if I'm enjoying the show in the Lounge?""
I love the food and the entertainment at The Pink Door. I think this is a fun place to eat and I don't want the poorly trained staff to ruin it for me. Whether it be policy driven, or due to a lack of training, The Pink Door is starting to slip.
