I stopped by after shopping at REI, which is across the street. The guy at the counter was one of the rudest baristas I've ever encountered. When I ordered my standard americano, I casually inquired the difference of a macchiato and a latte and he sternly answered my question, which I presently cannot recall because I was so caught off guard by his unsurpassed tone and offensive expression. After waiting for my friend to order, I stood at the counter and when my drink was ready, under his breath, the barista announced my drink. When I didn't immediately react, he announced once it once again, only louder and with more aggression in his voice with a push of the drink towards me. I was appalled!!! They also didn't have a very ""heath friendly"" selection of food items. Mainly pastries and cookies.

This is the second shop location of Capitol Hill's Espresso Vivace, and the quality of the coffee is equally top notch. Having tried most of the better coffeeshops in the city, I really believe that Vivace is the standard by which other coffees should be measured. You can't get drip or french press coffee here - just espresso (and italian sodas) - so don't bother to ask.
The atmosphere at this location is much more in accord with the modern thing that South Lake Union seems to be doing, but it manages to be welcoming nonetheless. There is plenty of seating, free wireless, and even a meeting room that you and a small group can reserve.
