Refused to serve us with our physical service Labrador. I called ahead and explained to a nice young lady that we were walking 7 blocks in the rain from our hotel, and asked if we had time to make it before they closed. I was told they were closing at 9:30, and she asked me to try to be there by 9:15. We arrived at 9:12. As the same nice young lady was seating us, three men came from the back. They pointed to our service animal (who was wearing his service dog vest) and spoke excitedly in their language. They gave the young lady a command, and she said, ""I'm sorry - we are closed"". One of the men offered to get us food to go, but refused to seat us. Food was still coming out of the kitchen, and was being delivered to tables.
It was very obvious they did not want our service dog in their restaurant, and their refusal to continue seating us was thinly guised as a sudden decision to close. Our service Labrador is very clean, calm and well trained.
If you are handicapped and in need of a service animal, I would not recommend this restaurant. The food smelled wonderful. We were very hungry after a long drive, and it was difficult to walk away without food.
I went here in September '09 and it looked like a decent place for lunch. After my wife and I ordered our food we saw a roach run out from under the picture on the wall. We immediatley told the owner and he simply offered us another table as if it was perfectly normal. Sinbce then I have spoken to some people that have gone there (including one of the people that rented to apartment upstairs) and they all recommended staying away from that place. The guy that rented to room upstairs ended up having to move because of roach infestation.
I work in the U-District and eaten at just about every place on the Ave from 40th to Ravenna and have not encountered this before. If you wabt good Indian food head a couple blocks west to Roosevelt and try Bombay Grill or India Bistro, at the very least they are bug free.

Mr. Malik please show some compassion for your employees who work so hard for you and take care of your customers. When customers leave they want to show their appreciation for the great waiter or waiterss. However, if your policy does not let them keep the tip then they can not be rightly rewarded. Please please let them keep the tips.

It is fairly well known in Seattle that the owner of Cedars on Brooklyn keeps the tips left by customers for himself. Staff is not permitted to discuss this policy nor are they allowed to accept cash on the side. So pay your bill and leave no tip at all. If you liked your service let the server know by saying ""thanks.""
Go a step further and show your disapproval of this type of practice by informing the owner the reason you've left no gratuity. And be sure to continue spreading the word.
I would probably eat here more often however I am in disagreement with restaurant owner's practice of withholding tips for himself.

Had to wait for a long time for a table ,Customers who came after us were seated first. We finally were given a table .It then took the waiter ages to come over to take the order, the food arrived in bits and pieces.they got most of the order wrong.and no apology was given.the chicken was stale and naan cold and hard.We mentioned this to the owner Shah Khan who just gave us a dirty look and walked away commenting something rude to his staff who burst out laughing.
Dont even bother to come to this place as it is in the final stages of its demise.

I was there with a bunch of indian friends, we were a bunch of ppl who were non whites. Inspite of arriving early and making a booking we were made to wait more than 30 min while other people who arrived after us were given preference as it got busy. Finally we were given a table tucked in a corner next to where they store stuff. I think the owner has a slave fixation.

I used to love this restaurant. Service wasn't so great but food used to be really good but now it seems like a new owner has taken over.
All the food tastes differently and they taste bad.
Last time I went there not knowing that owner has been changed, I ordered a garlic nan and tandori chicken. When the nan came out, I reached for the bread and a r-0-a-c-h came out and also tandori chicken just looked so nasty. I kid you not. A restaurant with r-0-a-c-h-e-s in the kitchen... what does that tell you? DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT.

What a disappointment. The new owners have been in place for 9 months, yet still the walls are bare, the lights are dim and the whole place remains cold (our obtuse waiter, when asked about heat, responded, ""It's cold in here?"" - never mind that most diners had their coats on and one woman even wore her wool cap). The food was average. The only notable plate was the garlic naan - it arrived hot, fluffy and with the side of tamarind/cilantro dipping sauce. Too bad - Cedar's used to be a reliable standard for Indian food.

I agree with the last post 100%. I have been a customer for about 4 years and despite the terrible customer service, I kept coming back because of the food. Tonight however was my last visit. The food tasted differently and did not agree with my stomach (I order the same thing every time so I attribute this to the new owner). I also found a strand of hair in my food but naively figured that it must have been mine. The waiter forgot our appetizer and some girl kept coming over and asking if we were done even though we barely had a chance to touch our food. In the end we were charged for things we never ordered. You WILL be rushed out of there every single time. Sometimes you may have to wait for a table in the pantry. Lastly, my friend is often mistaken to be of Indian heritage and is always treated much better. I would highly recommend taking your business elsewhere.
