I love the Jewish Collection store. Lot's of selection, etc. However, every time I've brought up a purchase at checkout, the clerks barely acknowledge my presence, never make eye contact or smile and never say thank you. I get the distinct impression they're doing ME a favor. On my latest trip, despite spending lots of money in their store in the past, I made a small purchase and gave them my debit card. Mockingly, the lady ringing me up asked me ""Don't you have any cash?"". I don't carry cash usually, preferring to use my Visa. Because they run it as a Visa with a 1 or 2 percent fee, the cashier alienated a future customer over ONE OR TWO PENNIES!
On the another visit, one of the employees verbally dressed down a non-native english speaking employee who was tasked with cleaning the display silver. Apparently she wasn't doing it to her liking. It was an ugly display of class segregation.
In both case, the operators of the store, whether by design or nature of their personality left a terrible taste in my mouth. Indeed, given the religious nature of their business, they are setting a poor example of their religion by living up to an untrue, outdated stereotype.
I really wish they would realize their CUSTOMERS are what make the Jewish Collection a viable business. If treating customers poorly and belittling them in front of other shoppers is their way of growing their business, good luck!
