Untamed Auto and Performance

I found Untamed via a Google search--great ratings so I thought I'd give them a call. I had a check engine light come on about a week ago. O'Reiley's ran diagnostics on it which indicated it could be a coolant thermostat issue. I took my car to pep boys and they quoted me $288. When I called Untamed they quoted me a much lower price based on the problem I described. I called on a Thursday afternoon and they made time for me ASAP on Saturday so I wouldn't have to miss work. When I brought my car in I was blown away by the honesty and personableness of Steve and Ron the owners. Both of them helped to run diagnostics on my car and talk to me about the potential problem. Crazy enough, the check engine light went off right before they went to run the diagnostics. They still ran them, but then left it up to me if I wanted to proceed with changing the coolant thermostat or not. I drive a 2003 Ford Focus so the part was 15 years old at this point and I have emission testing coming up so I didn't want to risk it going back on. I'm an "Ounce of Prevention" type so I told him to yes, please go ahead with the repair anyways. He quoted me a MUCH better rate than Pep Boys--considerably lower to my astonishment. Steve and Ron moved 3 other cars they were working on out of the garage to get my car in and up on a lift. Steve took care of the repair in about an hour and even did an oil change I asked for at the last minute. After that, he showed me the undercarriage of my car and explained it still looked to be in pretty good shape. No major leaks or damage. I told him I just got my muffler replaced somewhere else back in November and it had cost me about $1000. He advised me that I may have been charged the maximum price for the parts (parts alone totaled over $700). He thought the job could have been done for somewhere between 500-700 total. Wow. These guys are the real deal! Honest and knowledgable. I learned so much and I really appreciate the time they took to talk to me and explain everything to me. They didn't sell me anything I didn't need and didn't "coincidentally" find more things wrong with my car. I brought my Dad with me in case I would have to leave my car at the shop. When my dad had questions about his own car (some interior upholstery stuff and a scratch on the front end), they took the time to look his car over and advised him on the most cost effective route (which they were honest and told him they didn't specialize in that and he could get a better deal elsewhere). Just A+ service all around. Kudos to operating your business with honesty, integrity and true passion for mechanics. Will be coming back to see Steve and Ron for future repairs and I highly recommend to anyone who is reading these reviews and considering Untamed for their auto repairs. (Notable to mention that I live in Elgin and it is well worth the trip for me to come back out and see these guys.) Thank you for your help, Untamed!

These guys are straight shooters. They have yet to try & upsell me an unnecessary repair or service. I finally found a shop I can trust to get me on my way at a price I wont cringe at! Lol Thank You!
