I've done business with this store before so I was comfortable shipping a Leroy Nieman Print to Florida. When they asked me how much to insure . I explained to them it was more sentimental then anything else. It was given to me by my Uncle over 30 years ago. He is no longer with us. It's a fairly large piece. It cost $154.00 to Ship. I told them $300. I just picked a number because I never Imagined it would arrive damaged. Like I said I've done a lot of business there before and they pack it well.
Well sure enough it arrived with a couple of holes in the Carton. Which i took a picture of. Still thinking it would be OK. I proceeded to Open the Package and much to my surprise The Glass Was Shattered and was strewn all over the room. Took another Picture.
I called the UPS Store in Sayville NY and explained my problem. I was then told I first needed to Prove that it was worth $300 and Had to Leave the Glass and Packing Material AS IS for up to 3 Weeks. In addition when they showed up they would take the Leroy Nieman Print that's been in my family for almost 50 years. I told them they could keep the $300 and Hung Up. Now I'm sure they were just quoting UPS Policy. But I was Outraged and felt that they made it so hard to make a claim that It was just Not Worth It. How do you put a Price on Something So Sentimental. Not to mention leaving Glass and Packing Material Spread Out through an Entire Room for 3 Weeks !!
