Bladder Cancer
SaraPath provides comprehensive evaluation of bladder, kidney, prostate, testis, ureter, and urine specimens. Technical services are performed in-house in SaraPath’s CAP accredited facilities, including frozen sections, rapid and routine tissue processing, and an extensive menu of immunohistochemical and special staining services. IHC services include testing for basal cells and racemase to assist with the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of prostate and PIN in needle core biopsies of prostate, as well as for classification of renal neoplasms. Bladder cancer FISH testing on urine specimens also available in-house.

SaraPath’s state-of-the art, CAP accredited labs provide continuous tissue processing, offering more than 100 IHC antibodies, therapeutic markers and stains. All invasive breast carcinomas are tested for estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and Her-2/neu overexpression by IHC. Reflex testing for Her-2/neu by FISH is performed for all cases that are equivocal by IHC. Results for patients requiring stereotactic or ultrasound guided, core needle biopsies are generally available in less than 24 hours. All malignant diagnoses are reported via telephone, followed by a written report. Expert consultation is obtained for rare, difficult or unusual malignancies.
Mammography
Comprehensive evaluations are performed on all gyn and breast pathology cases and associated clinical and mammography studies, by our experienced, board certified physicians and cytopathologists. SaraPath’s pathologists serve as critical team members on the tumor boards and cancer committees at several hospitals and breast health centers, and work regularly with other team members to review cases and provide optimum patient care.
Computed Tomography
Angiosarcoma of the kidney is an unusual neoplasm, and primary renal angiosarcoma is exceedingly rare, with fewer than 11 well-documented cases reported to date. To our knowledge, no publication to date has correlated the fine-needle aspiration cytologic findings in renal angiosarcoma with the gross, histologic, and immunohistochemical findings. A 50-year-old man presented with a left kidney mass and multiple liver and pulmonary nodules. Computed tomography-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsies of the renal mass and a hepatic nodule were performed and demonstrated malignant spindle cells consistent with angiosarcoma. The diagnosis was confirmed at autopsy through histologic examination and associated ancillary studies. This case presents the fine-needle aspiration cytologic findings in renal angiosarcoma and correlates these findings with the gross pathologic, histologic, and immunohistochemical findings.

All technical services are performed in-house in SaraPath’s CAP accredited facilities, including frozen sections, rapid or routine tissue processing, and an extensive array of immunohistochemical and special staining services. Cytology processing is also available for detection and characterization of endoscopically-visible, ill-defined, or invisible gastrointestinal lesions, for identification of some microbiologic pathogens (primarily herpes simplex virus and Candida), and for detection of malignant cells arising within the hepatobiliary system.
