Good Burger but Needs Some Work
The Counter makes a decent burger but this location in particular has a few issues. First, like everything in LA, this place is so over hyped that it gets busy to the point where there's a waiting list. To alleviate the problem, the staff will actually seat you at the same table with strangers. This is bizarre and is completely an issue of arranging the tables better. No one wants to eat like that.
The burger is really good. Even the smaller ones are gigantic and usually require a knife and fork for little ole' me to eat. I just wish they would straighten out their layout a little bit.

This place is over priced and not that big a deal. I went in for a burger (they weren't that busy) but a problem developed with my order.
First, a guy who wasn't my waiter brought me a side of sweet potato fries which I didn't order but was on my bill!
Secondly, I watched 3 tables, which had been seated after me, receive their food before I got mine. By they time I got my food I'd lost my appetite.
I'd ordered the southwestern burger bowl (a burger on a bed of lettuce no bun). The meat was dry and the greens were wilted. I was happy when the bill finally came only to discover I was charged and additional .50 for some sauce I hadn't ordered!
Maybe they had an off day but I don't care to return and give them another try.

The food is okay i'm not going to lie, but a rip for what your getting. I mean the burger doesn't come with a thing, AND your not even getting these so called ""holy"" burgers on a decent plate...plus i've had much better sweet potato fries...try sf saloon on west pico, cheaper/better drinks too

Zero rating, Terrible parking, Way overrated food, Not in the class of TGIF, Hof's Hut, Claim Jumper but in same price range. Noisy, terrible seating, Very very bland food. Not woth the price or the experience. Misleading menu on ordering fries. I expected a single order( $1.25) and got a regular order($3.25) Meat almost tasteless. Another restaurant in the mold of Panera, corner Bakery, wildflower, Chipolte, Baja fresh. Neither comfortable nor value nor taste.
Stick with the old time restaurants and avoid the generational gap ones.

Unknown to the public (unless you follow them on Twitter or fan them on Facebook), build your own burger mecca The Counter offers 4 mini-burgers and beer pairings for $12. You have to follow them to see when this special is being offered at your local location, but it's a great deal knowing that just one of their regular burgers cost around $10. [Twitter Handle: @CounterBurger]
you owe it to yourself to try one of The Counter locations around LA. the Build Your Own Burger concept is great and you end up with tastes you never expected on a burger - whether you choose a turkey, beef, chicken or veggie patty.
this one is closest to santa monica but can be rather packed at times. I like the busy atmosphere but usually opt for to-go service. do not miss the sweet potato fries!!

This place rocks. You can end up spending $15 on a burger without trying, but who even cares! It's delicious!
Build your own burger with an insane amount of toppings to choose from. Options for everyone, even me! I can be picky and randomly strange when it comes to my taste buds. The wait staff is totally nice and laid back.
Don't forget the Sweet Potato Fries!!! Nom nom nom.Love this place.

Have it your way! No, seriously! Make a burger exactly how you want it at this Santa Monica burger spot. Not only do you have your choice of meat, but you also can choose from 1/3 lb up to 1lb. This is a great place for couples and groups because you can be as healthy or as bad as you want. Picky eaters inquire within.

The Counter takes the phrase ""Have it your way"" and unloads on it with a furry of flavor. Take your miniature golf pencil and start checking off the toppings to pile onto your custom built burger. With good stuff like horseradish mayo, grilled pineapple rings, applewood smoked bacon, aged cheddar, and roasted chilies, you really can't go wrong. Keep on checking them off and the higher your burger will get... and hey, sometimes it's a good thing to have a burger piled taller than wide. Or stop in on a Thursday where you can grub on their super delicious mini slider burger and beer pairings. But remember, these aren't your everyday sliders. We're talking smoked Gouda, crispy onion strings, Canadian bacon, guacamole ... need we say more? And when you match them up with a range of tasters from a refreshing Hefeweizen to a dark, rich Porter, it's grub greatness. But don't forget about the first course on this tour through deliciousness. Make sure to begin your journey with a fifty-fifty ... a tasty tray filled with your choice of half sweet potato fries, shoestring potatoes, or shredded onion rings. Better yet, take it to the next level and go for the fried pickle chips. While you're chowing down, don't forget to soak up the atmosphere with painted skateboards hung from the wall, hip-hop and rock tunes streaming as if a DJ was in the corner, and a waitress or two in rainbow suspenders. It's kind of like your surfer / skateboard buddy from high school took over a diner, started flipping some seriously juicy burgers, and added a serious mix of beers on tap. So grab a burger, add on a fifty-fifty, fill up your pint with a pale ale, and ride off into the center of the Good Grub universe. See more at www.thegoodgrub.weebly. com

I have been a Counter fan for years however, I have recently discovered LA's NEW BEST BURGER at Joni's Coffee Roaster Cafe in Marina del Rey. It's called ""THE RODFATHER BURGER""....A Whipped Horseradish burger on a warmed homemade pretzel bun. This is a must and the word is spreading fast.....

Be prepared to wait a while to get a table if you want to eat in. This place is so popular that it is always full even on off hours but its full for a reason. The burgers are great and I am not even a burger kind of gal. I got the veggie burger so packed with veggies you can see them and I can't not get the sweet potato fries there either!

We went on a Sat eve. We were starved after working all day. We ordered fries to placate our hunger and they came fast and were very good. I filled out the sheet for my burger, my way. It TOOK FOREVER. It was not what I had ordered - no roasted peppers but worst of all it was RAW. Barely brown on the outside and dripping red uncooked on the inside. I cut the burger in half, showed the waitress and they took it back.
OH MY GOD. They brought back the exact same cut in half burger and had cooked it to death - it was BLACKEND on the outside.
The manager was nice and did not charge us for it - gee thx now how about my growling stomach and all the time I wasted sitting here waiting for decent food.
The service staff was soso. I would not go back and I would not recommend this VERY OVER PRICED BURGER joint with metal chairs.

Of course in LA you'll find a posh diner. The burgers here can't go wrong because you can mix and match whatever you like. They have the burger in a bowl which is how your burger ends up looking. The burgers are so large you end up needing to eat it with a fork. You have to try the milkshakes of the month. Sure they have the classics, but once in a while they'll come up with these outstanding tasting milkshakes ...ie the Churro Milkshake. Heart-Attack waiting to happen...well you only live once. The service was peppy and had one too many redbulls but they were quick and attentive. There can be quite a long wait so not good for groups greater than 6. A must try and decent price.

I love this place!! I dig the idea of making your own burger.I love their sweet potato fries. I love their burgers--I've had their turkey burgers, veggie and possibly even their (gasp) meat. (Sometimes you just get a craving.) Service has been pretty good from what I remember...

Here its done right. Great meat(pick your size: 1/3 or 1/2 or 1 lb), type of bun, type of cheese, + 3 toppings included. I always get sweet potato fries, a mountain of an order good for two or even three people. Always a wait though, counter service is faster than tables. Go!
