It's very rare to find a company that lives up to the promise they all make to treat you like family (or in my case, even better as friends). Del Norte staff -- I should say people -- really do welcome you, make you feel at ease. I was a bit wary at first, because I've had this very old image of a credit union, but it turns out that this one is open to anyone who lives anywhere in the 14 northern counties of New Mexico. Easier to join than Costco! All savings and CD rates are low these days, but Del Norte's are a bit higher than the commercial banks -- and their loan rates are a bit lower -- and I guess that's the point: credit unions are nonprofit, and don't need to increase their profits quarter over quarter forever, and therefore don't have to chase bubble-style returns. And I think that helps make a difference in how the people who work there feel, and therefore in how they treat customers -- members. Lots of branches, ATMs, even mobile banking!
