When we gave up the fish market for the restaurant, our objective was to turn out the best possible meal at a cost working people with a family could afford. That didn't mean something they could handle but under stress. It meant, and still means, a really good meal and beverages at a really comfortable price. Our loyal and friendly staff now serves some of the best, award-winning seafood around. Voted Santa Cruz's Best Seafood Restaurant, we offer something for everyone. Try our chowder, fish tacos, zucchini fries, or a killer crab sandwich. Big hunks of juicy tasty crab, seasoned to perfection, served on sourdough bread hand-made and baked to Riva's exacting specifications, with cheese of your choice, grilled and hot for your body. It's probably good for your mind, too. Wash that down with a craft beer or handmade cocktail. Finish off your experience by trying some of our 12 flavors of delicious, creamy gelato that is sure to please. Stop by and dine with us soon. You'll walk in with a smile. Not sure what's happened over the years, but the last few times, the fish and shrimp dishes were dry. My husband and I have been coming here since the early 1990s and some of the reasons we return is the location, staff, prices and the awesome gelato at the end. Great for families, our girls have always loved their dishes.

Are you kidding?

So a couple locals told us this was the best place on the warf to eat. We saw there was a good crowd in there so we went in. I had the Cajun shrimp and prawns. It had no taste at all. I don't know how you screw up shrimp, but they did. It was spicy but had no real taste, blah. My husband had the clam strips, or should I say scraps. The waitress admitted they are frozen bulk strips. Frozen breaded clams when your restaurant is on a warf? Crazy! It was just breaded crap. My son had a Philly cheesesteak-what a joke! It was on super sour sourdough bread that overpowered the sandwich. The waitress told us, "Everyone raves about this sandwich!" I guess they've never had a real Philly Cheesesteak before. If this food is what the locals consider one of their best restaurants, I feel sorry for them. I know a place in Reno, NV where you can get better seafood! Never again!

Great Place to Eat in Santa Cruz

I went to Riva the other day for a late lunch. My boyfriend and I were seated right away and the servers were very attentive, and I mean ALL the servers... not just the one that was assigned to our table. The view is amazing, and it's a nice casual place that isn't too expensive.
The calamari here was good, though the pieces are a little too big for my taste. I ordered the fish and chips which was excellent and huge! There were 3 pieces of fish and I could only manage 1 piece. The fries were nice and crispy.
Be forewarned though... the fried food is FRIED, so if you don't like really greasy food, order something else off of the menu.
