Dental Examination
We recommend that you maintain regular dental cleanings and exams to avoid any tooth loss and bone loss. At SLO Smiles we provide a screening for periodontal disease at each visit, and monitor and treat existing conditions to help prevent the progression of any bone loss as well as tooth loss.
X-rays
Until recently, traditional dental x-rays were only able to provide limited information about the state of your mouth. Dentists relied on experience and knowledge to diagnose and develop treatment plans for each patient.

Teeth Cleaning
Because dental implants are permanent, they act like natural teeth. This means that you will be able to treat them like the rest of the teeth in your mouth. Unlike dentures, they never need to be removed, and they rarely require anything other than brushing, flossing and regular teeth cleanings once they are professionally implanted.

Fillings
Typically, less tooth structure has to be removed to accommodate tooth-colored composite fillings compared with amalgam fillings, lending to a more conservative approach towards tooth restoration. In addition, metal fillings tend to contract and expand due to temperature changes in the mouth and can lead to bacterial leakage around these fillings over time.
Veneers
Porcelain veneers are designed to resist stains better than natural teeth and other restorations. Veneers appear natural because they mimic the way light reflects off of the surface of the teeth. Veneers can last a very long time if taken care of properly.
Crowns
