Fish & Chips Chicken Stop in San Leandro is WORTH visiting!

Another satisfying ""Fish Friday"" on 10/2/09 this time @ San Leandro's Fish & Chips Chicken Stop!

LOCATION: On E.14th St (yeah, I don't call it International Blvd) in San Leandro closest to Hwy 238; btw 164th Ave & Pajaro Ct. Next door to Tacqueria Mi Placita restaurant w/ its own private parking lot for patrons. Bright red & blue paint outside of restaurant & large sign make it hard not to notice this place while driving too, so u can't really miss it.

RESTAURANT: Large, spacious, & very clean restaurant w/ indoor & outdoor seating; outdoor seating has umbrellas too. 1 flat screen mounted TV in dinning area, several 4-seater tables w/ armless-rotating chairs that are grounded to table & floor & approx 5 booths inside. Not too handicap friendly since seats are grounded, & extra extra EXTRA heavy may not sit as comfortable...but THAT shouldn't deviate you from visiting & getting some eats!

CUST SVC: Great! Welcoming & pleasant greeting once we got to counter. Cashier-Cecilia was patient as BF-J & I scoped the menu, while other patrons did the same. Cook came out of the kitchen to confirm an order w/ Cecilia, & the gent apologized 1st for interrupting our order b4 speaking w/ Cecilia. Politeness can be taken for granted @ times, but it shined here. Polite, friendly, patient, & great! Keep up the good work team =)

DINNER: Waited about 10min for our food to be cooked & bagged; got back home to Castro Valley & bag still hot =) Packets of tartar sauce, hot sauce, & seafood sauce (which to me was like cocktail sauce) included in bag. Malt Vinegar @ table setting inside restaurant, but no packets =( Oh well. So BF-J got Small Jumbo Shrimp w/ fries & I got 4-piece Snapper Fillets w/ potato salad. Well, as we waited for our food we saw Cashier-Cecilia prep a side of greens for another order & it just looked good 2 me behind the glass. BF went up order additional sides of Collard Greens & Potato Salad (he fig we'd want more than my dish side). Everything we sampled here was excellent! Fresh, hot, chillled, & more importantly large portions especially w/ the $2.99 sides appearing to be a lil' over 12oz...1 side is shareable btw 2 adults.

DESSERTS: Believe me, the temptation to get the Red Velvet Cake was high, but was in the mood to try something new & different...glad we did. BF-J got the Sock It To Me & socked it to him alright. Cinaminee middle, nice pound cake denseness, & not overly sweet icing. I got the Sweet Potato Cake, which was apparent on 1st bite of sweet potatoes, cake was fluffy, & icing was creamy. BF-J started to enjoy this a lil' too much, but good thing I ""heart"" him...I actually shared this. Both cakes get a recommendation!

FINAL TAB: We spent $29.58 for a Small Jumbo Shrimp order, 4-piece Snapper Fillets order, 2 sides, & 2 SCRUM-DIDLY-UMPTOUS cake slices. Absolutely recommend this place to order food to go or dine in; large menu w/ all ur common soul food sides; delicious dessert selection cater from It's All Good Bakery; great cust svc plus large & very clean restaurant. We're definitely going back to try everything else they have to offer *tee-hee* & recommend u do 2 if in the area ;-)
