My son has been at Willow Glen Academy for almost a year now. He started off with one day a week to acclimate but he's now two full days a week. I'm really happy with the level of care, curriculum and facilities. It felt like the right balance from the beginning - and the owner Randy answered my long list of questions on my tour last year. My first impression though? When I first called and spoke with Miss Shannon I could hear the excitement and noise in the background but she remained calm, upbeat and kind. I hung up my call and thought - wow, with all that chaos, she kept her cool! I need to check them out! I wanted a combo of personalized 1:1 care but not a large classroom filled with 30+ kids like many of the mega churches in my area. On most days the ratio of kids to teachers is 6 to 1 - and I felt that was just right. They also offered a hot lunch choice for $3 a day with fresh fruit and that was a nice feature I didn't expect. All the teachers from Miss Shannon to Miss Dorothy have been wonderful. They know I have a sensitive child who needs a little more help with transitioning when I leave in the morning and I appreciate that more than I can say! I like the balance of art work, stories, language development, hands on play and group time the kids get. This is a critical age when playing to learn is crucial. They do have academic based workbooks to do from time to time but its age appropriate and not overwhelming. They also allow the kids to use their abcmouse.com account if they need some alone time. Nothing is pushed, and my son needs that. I also like the gardens, redwood trees, parakeets and the shade covered playground for the kids - it's a small but lovely facility. I'm happy with my choice of preschool - and we have another year to go until Kindergarten so we will likely add more days. I know my son is learning - he's 4.5 and can already identify all letters and number plus write his name. He walks by cars now and reads off license plates to me. Simple but that all happened this summer while at WG Academy. I wanted a combo of personalized 1:1 care but not a large classroom filled with 30+ kids like many of the mega churches in my area. My oldest son started with Central at age 2 and was there until he started kindergarten at age 5 1/2. A few months later, my younger son started just after age 2 and is currently enrolled. My husband and I feel so fortunate to have found Central Nursery School. The preschool has been in business for 35+ years and has experienced, knowledgeable, empathetic and friendly teachers, each of whom has been with the preschool long-term. These ladies are the BEST out there (in my humble opinion!) They treat the kids (and parents) with respect, you will never hear them yelling, speaking harshly or putting down your child. It is a COMPLETELY positive environment. The minute you step inside the gate of Central, the happiness of the children exudes all around. Central provides a "home-like" atmosphere for the kids, which I think helps them adjust quickly and really WANT to spend their days here. The children are separated into groups by age (Papooses, Braves and then Chiefs) and are given an age-appropriate curriculum between art projects, counting projects, learning and recognizing letters, spelling their names, story time and singing songs. We love when our little guy comes home singing us the songs he's learned in the week! They get plenty of outside play time and there are two playgrounds that are structured for age appropriateness. Everyone naps (or has quiet time) for 2 hours in the early afternoon. Snacks and drinks are provided, but you do bring your own lunch (which works great for us since we have a semi-picky eater and we can tailor his lunch to what we know he will eat). If you are considering a preschool, you definitely want to put Central Nursery School at the top of your list of schools to visit.
We've been so happy with the care and education our 2-year old daughter gets at Willow Glen Academy. The first time I saw it I was very impressed by all the cool stuff they have for the kids - a huge fish tank, tons of toys, a kid-sized computer desk and chairs, lots of plush pillows for those mornings when they're not quite awake yet, a big TV playing cartoons in the morning. I've stopped in at various times of the day and the teachers are always leading the group in activities - the kids are almost never left to get into mischief because they're kept busy. As a group they're coloring, singing, dancing, playing outside. I have yet to see a child act out there - they're all engaged in the activity and having fun. They teach the kids to greet one another, and to stick up for themselves. They organize fun extra activities for the kids like trick-or-treating in the neighborhood (with parent help), a Thanksgiving meal, a Christmas party and gift exchange. WGA has taught my daughter (an only child) to take turns, to share, and to count in Spanish. The best part though is how much my little girl loves going there. She's excited every day to go to "school" and most days doesn't want to leave when I go to pick her up. It's a huge relief to know your child is well taken care of while you're working. I'm so glad I found this preschool and the awesome people who work with the kids.
Our whole family has had a great experience at Cornerstone. My daughter started preschool in the fall of 2008 and attended for 2 years. My son started in the fall of 2010 and is just finishing up his second year. The teachers have been experienced, loving, and professional. My children also had several teachers in common, and I love that many of the staff have been there for years. The curriculum has prepared my children very well for kindergarten. They have so much fun with the games and activities and yet are learning what they need to know to be able to start reading and other kindergarten activities when they get there. The social environment has been very positive and encouraging. My children have learned to make friends and be a part of a community. The teachers are able to care for them and really get to know them. I love that I have been able to bring my younger children to participate in the Music Together classes, and the whole family to evening and weekend programs and festivals. We have gotten 2 progress reports each year that show our child's development over the term. The teachers and director have been great resources to our family. I recommend Cornerstone to all my friends with little ones.
I loved this Pre-school because they focus on each child's development. My son started at ABC Learning Montessori when he was 2 years old. After 6 months at ABC Learning Montessori, I took him out to another pre-school recommended by one of my closest friends, only to take him back to ABC Learning Montessori 8 months later because he was not learning much. He was just playing and singing at the other pre-school. Within 6 months after returning to ABC Learning Montessori, my Son started to learn again, they quickly worked with him on his Phonics and by age 4 he was reading and doing Math. I could see the growth in his learning abilities. I was really impressed and confident that my son will be ready for Elementary school when it is time. My 5 years old Son just graduated from ABC Learning Montessori on June 6, 2008 and is on his way to Kindergarten very well prepared. I will recommend this Pre-school to anyone.
My daughter, 3.5, loves this place! The school is set up with lots of fun activities for toddlers and preschoolers of all ages. My girl has learned phonics, social skills, and artistry in the 3 months she's been going here - and she's only going 2 days per week. Granted, I doubt the teaching quality is top-notch, but it appears to stimulate and keep the kids sufficiently content. Their rates are amazingly low for their services. We got in during a special rate of $150/week full-time,or $35/day part-time. They provide breakfast and lunch. They work with your needs when it comes to part-time care. The staff might not seem as professional as some of the pricier places in the area, but they are down-to-earth, warm, and accomodating. I highly recommend this day care if you're looking for a reasonably priced, clean preschool with an average-to-decent level of teaching.
I have had both my daughters attend Kiddie Kountry and our experience was wonderful! The staff are warm and nurturing and we felt very comfortable sending our children to school each day. What really impressed me the most, was that most of the staff member have been with the school for an average of at least 20 years. My youngest daughter had the same teachers her older sister had, and they are nine years apart! This was important to us as there are other school who have a large turn-over of staff each year. Being a Christian preschool was an important issue for us as well. Not only did my children receive the academic foundation they needed, they also learned important Christian principles. The facilities are very nice and clean too! I would definitely recommend Kiddie Kountry to anyone who is looking for a great school.
I came to this daycare/preschool having left an unpleasant experience with another daycare, and I was really glad I made the change. My son is 3 years old and he has been here for about 4 months now. His verbal and math skills have improved immensely. He can identify every letter in the alphabet and can even read a few words. They have a large play area and even have couple of chickens. While they do have the TV on early in the morning, the children have a ton of other material to play with. My son will often choose to play with blocks or puzzles even though there is a show on. I am really not worried that it is too much TV because he is clearly learning. The teachers and staff have always been wonderful and helpful with me.
Today I attended a Christmas party at the daycare with my 2 year old daughter Symphony , I was very surprised and impressed , there was lots of food , for the parents , and the kids sung a few Christmas songs together , the daycare asked the parents to participate in a gift exchange for the kids , and the daycare also purchased a gift for each kid , so each kid got two gifts , my daughter got a pretty expensive doll , from the daycare I was very grateful and impressed when a Santa came out that they of coursed hired for the kids , to take pictures with and receive there gift , it was a overall cool party and I got some awesome pictures and video of my daughter .
I wish I could give this school 100+ stars. My daughter Julianna attended this school for 3 years and loved it the whole time!! Her last day was just this past Friday. She was so sad. My daughter left knowing how to read and write her first and last name, she is able to read and write common words, she can speak some spanish, some french and was learning Japanese when she left. The teachers are wonderful they communicate great!! She never wanted to miss a day of school. She knows a bunch of fun games and songs. She became very independent going to Willow Glen Academy. Thank you to Mr. Randy, Ms. Teresa and especially Ms. Shannon (my babies best friend).
