The Juvenile Court is a part of the Superior Court of California, which is governed by the County of Santa Clara. The Juvenile Court has original jurisdiction over youths who are under the age of 18 and are violators of federal, state and municipal laws. It also handles matters related to child abuse and negligence. The agency hears various juvenile delinquency and dependency cases. Its juvenile dependency court issues visitation orders and deals in issues related to child adoption and legal guardianship. The agency also operates drug treatment, domestic violence and mental health courts. In addition, the Juvenile Court administers the Deferred Entry of Judgment (DEJ) program, which allows minors charged with felony for the first time to avoid the delinquency process.
