Established in 1993, the Environmental Services Department (ESD) provides recycling, water conservation and wastewater treatment programs in the City of San Jose in California. It also offers waste planning and implementation and construction and demolition recycling programs. The department maintains the San Jose Municipal Water System, which provides water supply and water quality maintenance services. The Environmental Services Department additionally offers habitat preservation solutions. It inspects construction sites to ensure the protection of storm drains and creeks. The department enforces law compliance for industrial and commercial businesses, new and redevelopment projects and pesticide applications. The Environmental Services Department has a staff of more than 400 employees. It is a part of the City of San Jose government in California.
